Hi everyone

Hello and welcome to the forum .

could any one give me advice on my daughters fiat 500 sport, the steering is making a clonking noise and I’m loosening the power steering intermittently, any advice welcome.

Sorry to hear your daughter's car has a problem. How old is it, and how many miles has it covered?

The steering is electrically assisted; a weak battery is a common cause of issues, so that's the first thing to check, and the cheapest and easiest fix if it turns out to be the reason.

If you're certain the battery is 100%, then it's time to get any fault codes read, particularly if you've seen any warning lights. You need specialist Fiat diagnostics for this; a generic fault code reader is unlikely to be much help. It may be worth paying a Fiat dealer for a diagnostic check (but not a repair - see below). You can buy third party software & cables (which runs on any windows laptop from XP onwards) for about the same price as a main dealer diagnostic check (about £75 or so).

It's not unknown for the torque sensor to fail (diagnostics can confirm this); the official Fiat fix is to replace the steering column complete, but the column can be satisfactorily remanufactured for a much lower cost. This website gives more information about both the fault and the fix.

I also suggest you have a good read of this thread.
