FIAT’s new C-segment contender, as previewed by the FIAT Aegea Project unveiled in May at the Istanbul Motor Show, is to be known as the new FIAT Tipo. The historic name has been used by FIAT since its earliest days and is now making a comeback on a global model designed to tackle the challenges of the future.

The new FIAT Tipo saloon measures 4.5m in length, 1.78m in width and 1.48m in height, with a wheelbase of 2.64m and boot capacity of 510 litres, meaning it can accommodate five passengers and their luggage with ease. As is the case with all FIAT products, a range of reliable, muscular and efficient engines will be available - two MultiJet II turbo-diesel engines and two petrol units with power outputs ranging from 95hp to 120hp, offered with manual and automatic transmissions (depending on engine).

Inside, the new FIAT Tipo is not only styled and built to the highest standards, it is also available with the latest technological features including FIAT Chrysler Automobiles' touch-screen Uconnect™ infotainment system with hands-free Bluetooth calling and audio streaming; a rear parking camera and TomTom satellite navigation.

The new FIAT Tipo saloon sports beautifully balanced proportions and a distinctive and perfectly-resolved design, yet even with its sophisticated styling and exceptional levels of build quality, the new FIAT Tipo will be a member of the “Functional Family” within the FIAT Brand, with an emphasis on value for money and practical features, as well as a straightforward model range and pricing structure.

Designed in Italy at the FIAT Chrysler Automobiles Centro Stile, and developed in Turkey together with Tofaş R&D, one of FCA's largest research and development centres, the new FIAT Tipo will be manufactured in the Bursa plant in Turkey which has been designated Gold Medal status by World Class Manufacturing in recognition of its efficiency, quality and eco-friendliness. It will retain the FIAT Aegea name in the Turkish market only.

The new FIAT Tipo saloon has not been confirmed for the UK market at this time.

It seems to be confirmd for the Netherlands, so i geus the UK will also get it. Production code is 343, a car on the new patform (y)

I likes it.. :D

I'm sure it'll be just a regular normal car that anyone who isn't spending Focus and Golf money will think is just fine... You can't tell for sure from Autoc8ap's usual lazy styley reporting.. :D

I see it more as a competitor in the Hyundai i30 / Skoda Rapid / Seat / Mitsubishi's etc. space rather than something trying to be "lower premium". I think Fiat worked out that selling a cheaper car with less sophistication is more profitable than selling a more expensive car (or in their case, NOT selling a more expensiove car) in the rather crowdwd and demanding C-segment.

I don't think people will ever buy bigger Fiats.. especially in the UK.. so this different approach looks pretty sensible.

Sadly can't see the saloon being a huge seller which is a pity as it'd be the one I'd have... :D but on the other hand if the hatch and wagon are coming to the UK then there is still some scope to make one.. :D

Apparently the new Tipo should cost approx £15k when its launched which is about £1k less than a Focus Style, but Tipo is bound to have far more spec!

I think its a smashing looking car, far more sophisticated than you'd imagine at the price. Ok so small-ish saloons don't tend to sell well but if the 5 door hatch is priced right, Fiat could actually do quite well with this one.

About time too - the last strongish selling mid size Fiat was the original Tipo, although the Bravo, Brava, Marea trio did reasonably. Despite owning one I never really took to the recently discontinued Bravo.

As far as i know these are very different motors, based on different platforms, I think Viaggio is based on the Alfa Giulietta (platform Fiat C) platform whereas the Tipo is based on Fiats Small Wide LWB platform (500L & X, Renegade etc). I'm very happy the guys at Fiat didn't just give us a Viaggio as to my eyes the Tipo looks a whole lot better than the Viaggio/Ottimo cars sold in China, plus the interior of Tipo looks a lot smarter.

Can't wait to see the 5 door, could be a replacement for my Bravo!

Something puzzles me about the spec of the new Tipo. Why no multiair engines? If my information is correct there will only be two petrol engines: The 1.4 16v Star Jet from the old Stilo and the almost as old 1.4 T Jet.

it's not aimed at "1st world" markets..
so limited servicing and lower spec fuel is almost expected:eek:

hence tried and tested - relatively low performance motors.
