It's probably the same notes being handed back and forth around the forums lol People should write their username on a twenty and only use it for FS sales.

Remember guys an easy and very good modification is to drill out the rivet on the leaver arms of the back brakes and replace with a bolt to stop them seizing. ;)

Also where is the car being stored now as in where do we go to work on it?

May be down at my brothers in Pitcaple soon as in a few weeks so may pop over :D

Cheers mate - I'll remember to keep note of that for Saturday, but I'd imagine Mrcento knew that already :)

Not going to put the address in full in the public domain, but we're not very far from the A96 at the Aberdeen end so yeh - should be easy to find. We've a slightly bigger Fix It planned for 7th September if you are around that weekend :)

unfortunately wont be for that weekend but probably the weekend before around the 31st?

Is it far from the propeller garage then as have family in Bucksburn?

How do i find you then can you PM me where the meets will be please :)

Yes I'm sure we'll be there for a bit on the 31st. Weekend of the 7th we'll (hopefully) be welding and fitting new brake lines.

We've not very far from the propeller! Mere minutes away!

Will get info PM'd to ya later on :)

oh and im glad things are getting donated!. i understand obviously not everyone can give things away and im sure are giving good prices on what is for sale. i just like to see support.

ive not quite got to my car stuff boxes with moving house atm.

can we get a Parts wanted/needed sticky somewhere so we can tick bits off if anyone has them?

We do indeed have an undercover home for the site car. Torches will probably be required as there is no power in the shed but the good thing is it's water-tight so no matter what the weather we can work on the car. We'll still put the tarpaulin over it when it's not in use as the birds get in there.

Plan of action for tomorrow is to arrive on site and head straight to the byre. There's a hill on the access road at the back of it we need to assess as to whether or not we can get the car up there without grounding it or taking the front bumper off. If not it'll need to go out the gates and round the long way.

After that it's time to get to work :D

Is anyone else interested in joining us this weekend?

Gutted im missing this weekend, but as ever i will follow the details updates of Harper for progress updates :)

That byre looks absolutely fantastic - quite big, so lots of room to move round / not feel claustrophobic, and looks bright enough with natural light too, so all in all ideal!!

Updates probably won't be until the end of the day as there's no wifi at the new place. Might manage a quick update if Martyn and Mark need to do a trip to Persley for bits for the exhaust but otherwise it'll be notes on the computer and written up later.

Dropped by b&q on the way home tonight to pick up a rechargeable torch. I've needed one for a while for trips out to the shed at night and stuff but never gotten round to buying it.

Should come in handy tomorrow though :D

As Martyn said we had a few problems today. First of all thank you to Mark and LewisP who were our mechanics. Mark especially worked very hard on the car whereas Lewis just dismantled things

They started by removing the rear brakes

This was the wear on the shoes

Yet another problem found - broken levers

levers_broken.jpg

We then discovered the brake pistons were ****ed and leaking brake fluid all over the place. A decision was made to put on the new handbrake cable as far as they could, put the drums back on and replace the wheels. We have now ordered new levers, pistons and shoes for next week

Old handbrake cable

While the rear of the car was in the end Martyn wire-brushed the rear trailing arms and the boot floor ready for coating and Lewis repaired the arch back into a more MOT-friendly state.

Moving on to the front of the car and once again we found problems. Old discs and pads were removed

When trying to put the brakes back together yet another problem arose. The caliper piston wasn't retracting true because it was surprise, surprise ****ed. This meant Mark looked even closer at the set-up and found even more problems. There was a split in the shock absorber mounting bracket and it had been ground down

At which point the idea of fitting the new discs on was abandoned and everything was put back on enough to move the car.

You may be wondering what the situation was with the exhaust - well it's still not on. We need to angle-grind a small section off of it so we can fit a sleeve.

Did we have any success at all today? Well sort of. Some of the pink has gone has gone as Martyn painted the tow hooks

So all in all not the best of days. We're now back in Bridge of Don eating well-earned pizza and planning our next move. The general conclusion is this was a trouble-shooting day and now we know we've found the problems we'll fix them next week. Anyone available to help?

You still needing welding done? If so, I'll come up and take a shot at it. Aslong as its REASONABLY good metal and a good welder, none of the DIY S***E from machinemart...

I jokingly said yesterday I had money on the lotto rollover and a win would be donated to the site car fund. Email came through just now with news about my ticket - I won a tenner.

Oh well, it's all money towards parts
