Just seen this and I'm interested. Not, "Will definatly come" interested, but a possibility. In all likelyhood I have somewhere near Nice to stay (not my place though). I had a day in Monaco 2 weeks before last years GP, and they were putting up the grandstands, painting signs and so on. We parked in what became the paddock and went round most of the course.

It sounds to me that it could be split if there are enough people wanting to go. Having a main convoy driving down, and then seperate flyers who may not be able to stay the whole time. Joining up to help each other out and get to Monaco by public transport (it's got be easier and less hasstle to get a train or coach or boat) for the big days. Personally I'd be more tempted to fly, since it's quite a journey.

Gav, as I've tried to imply, there is no pressure from my part for anybody to drive to nice, you're more than welcome to join us for what ever parts of the trip you want to take part in. If I had an aston martin DB9 We could do a topgear style race across europe

Well i have just looked into the price of some accomadation in Nice and for a 2-4 sleeper apartment that can hold an extra 2 in the lounge it would cost £790 pw for next years Monaco GP, so the year after would be around the £800.

If it's possible that some people wouldn't mind sharing with other FF members then this would greatly reduce the price of the trip for some. Obviously there is the option for shorter breaks, but at that time of year with the GP on it really wouldn't pay to do that as i recon it would still cost you around £700 for a 3 day break.
Seeing as i'm going with my family, this is gonna be my best option for somewhere to stay, as you are responsible for your own food etc.

It would be worth working out who may want to share a flat with whoever ?
If we could get 4 people in each flat that would bring the cost of accomodation down to around £200pp for the whole week.

Information Regarding Road Side Assistance (RAC)

Here is an excerpt from the RAC European Cover Handbook which I recieved this morning.

Simply put No. It depends on your vehicle and its age, and something else that I forgot (mileage probably), you need to have an individual quote done. However the bloke at the RAC said depending on the cover, and length of stay, it could be an extra £40-120ish at least on top of the standard anual premium. That was for me driving a 1998 Barchetta.

We could try and find a rout avoiding the tolls, but it would take longer... For me, I probably won't do it again any time soon, so may as well do it the way you want to. I'm not intentionaly being patronising, just saying that you've got to decide (this applies to everybody interested in going) if you want to spend the money driving your car, or if you'd prefer to do it a different way. It may be easier for you and your family to fly down, I can't see 1800 miles as a passenger in a car to be that much fun for a young family. you could always hire a car (if you even need one) when you get there (micheal schumacher usually has a spair ferarri ).

Perhaps we should organise this with the assumption that some people will drive, and some people will fly or whatever. If we arrange for people to meet on the first day in monaco (evening of 22 May/Morning 23 May) to arrange a plan of action once we're there, and deal with anything that we need to as a group, such as introduce ourselves, discuss team allegiances etc...

I'd like to meet in callais/folkestone with people who are driving before we get totally committed to the journey, so we all know who drives what, so we can look out for one another.

Got some prices of flights to Nice during the weeks surrounding next years GP. It works out to around £83 per person for a return flight, and for my whole clan it was £418. So if your travelling alone, a flight at £83 is far lower than the couple of hundred or more that it will cost to go by car.

Well we ( me and the mrs) have decided to go for the Hotel/appartment option rather than camping so i'll get some rough prices for the options on that side of things.

Looking on the net so far has been pretty fruitless as there's just too many options for my brain to take in, so we are going to stop in at thomas cook next time we pass and get all the details we can.

Just a quick post to let you know I'm still on the case, and will have details about tickets just as soon as I can, as I may have already said, I'm going to see if I can get a ticketing agency to get a block of tickets, and then we'll all be in the same place for the GP.

I'm also going to put a few web pages together with all the stuff I've got assimilated into something useful, just as soon as I get a chance to do it.

I've got a bit of info, that I've not made available (I'm not hiding it away, but I can't put everything up), so if you need to know something I may be of help.

I know this seems a long way off still, after about march next year, everybody who wants to go will have to start thinking about acommodation and travel. The advice from the Monaco tourist board is that things are booked up (i.e. full) about 6 months in advance, in monaco and many of the nearby vilages.
