Technical fcuk rounded wheel nut

okay so ive just bought a cinq sporting and ive done a service so i thinks ill just whip off the rear wheels an check the brakes etc so i find that king kongs tightened the wheel nuts!![!] so i get them off eventualy including the crappy fiat locking bolts and the brakes are fine so before i pack up the tools i thinks ill just loosen the fronts as well and bless my barnacles if one of the front locking nuts isnt rounded off [?]so guys any tips? i was thinking about hammering on a small(ish) socket and trying that cos i dont fancy drilling it out and then removing the stud failing that any idea on garage costs for this

Yeah the best thing to do is hammer a socket onto it that is next size down will take a bit of hammering but just keep at it

I've got locking bolts out before by drilling across them to form a slot, then using a huge screwdriver bit on a socket set to undo them.

i must say im totally underwhelmed by the design of the fiat locking nuts luckily i took the other 3 off before messing around with the rounded one cos the keys(i had 2)just rounded of with hardly any torque

update used the socket method and it worked a treat luckily the nut was coppa slipped

Try to make it a flat slot head screw with wheel cutter (i hope it's name for that tool)

try and get some stud extractors? you drill a hole in the rounded off nut, then screw in the extractor<it has a reverse thread on it! then when it tightens right up keep going,because it's a reverse thread its like your trying to take out the wheelnut(anti clockwise)because your going anti clockwise the extractor is going in then when it cant go in any furtherit stops and because your still turning anti clockwise hopefully the wheel nut should start to come out! hope this makes sense???

If you use stud extractors, make sure the hole you drill is exactly on centre. And wear safety specs, you don't want your eyes in the way when tool steel shatters[xx(]
