I noticed a bit of a problem this weekend and was wondering if anyone could help?

At times when driving along a bit of an uneven surface (not off-road or anything, just uneven) I've noticed that my seat-belt indication lamp on the dashboard starts to flash intermittently. In addition I've had a previous problem whereby the temperature is constantly showing on the dashboard and not the mileage.

Is this likely to be an electrical connection fault, and if so can someone point me in the right direction of how to get to the connections?

Thanks,

Michael

Hi,
Seatbelt could just be a problem with the stalk connection, just have a nose around.
The temp showing is a strange one. You usually get an error if the sensor is faulty. Try cleaning the switch. Pressing the trip reset button on the instrument cluster may also clear it.

had the same thing on old marea 18 elx found out that some big footed **** that was in the back seat had pull the wires with his feet and it was making earth. all the seat blet does when u push it in, is it brakes the earth puting out the light on the dash

Thanks to Polecat and Murtagh for the replies. I'll have a look at the connections for the seatbelt at the weekend.

I have a theory on the temperature thing. I got something out of the glove box the other day and it was a bit damp with condensation, probably because of the temperature changes recently and I haven't been using the car much. I'm wondering if there might be a load of condensation in behind the instrument or button panel causing things to short, effectively emulating the button being constantly pressed in. If I can work out how to take the little panel off I'll have a look on Saturday.

Let me us know if you find out where the temp sensor is, please - because it has gone on mine and my manual doesn't even mention it let alone tell you how to replace it! I get "Error " appearing on the milage display when I start up...

It would be nice to have auto climate control working again for the summer - i guess it goes off the same sensor...

Isn't the sensor in the driver's side wing mirror casing? My problems not the sensor, thank goodness, just that the panel is constantly showing the readout.

wow thanks mate!

I had that mirror replaced this year after someone knocked 7 bells out of all the wing mirrors down the road i was parked on

I can't remember exactly when I got the problem with the sensor but it would have been about the same time...

Will post if that fixes the fault...

Sorry can't help yours...

Fixed it!!!!

When I had my mirror replaced the garage gave me the wrong mirror, without the temp sensor on it... also the cheapskates sorted me out with one with naff plastic parts inside...!

Anyway, I salvaged my old mirror out of the bin at the garage at the time because the electrics still worked and so with a little bit of modification to the new mirror case I swopped the insides round... bada bing bada boom... all fixed! Climate control works again and that anying "Error" has gone off the dash!

Cheers bud that has made my weekend sorting that out! (y)

FamilyGuy - glad I could be of help.

Looks like my temperature sensor thing might be a problem with the dashboard switch. I'm now at a point where it's constantly showing the temp on the console instead of the mileage. This must be a switch problem rather than sensor mustn't it, because if it was a sensor fault I'd just be getting either nothing or an error?

Unfortunately I've hit another problem this weekend when some kind lorry driver didn't secure his load of hardcore properly, so as we passed each other at a combined speed of about 120mph I got I large stone smacking in to my bonnet. I now have a dent and a big scratch. I'm going to see if I can knowck the dent out from underneath, but does anyone know if I can get cans of Fiat touch-up paint from a dealer? My car's "sunset red" although to be honest it's closer to an orangey copper than red.

Cheers,

Michael

Looks like you're having a run of bad luck there :(

Halfords and most other motor factors have touch up kits, but for a red you could be better off going to Fiat. Red always fades so it is unlikely that you will get a great match. Leave it a week after its painted and then blend it in with a bit 'T' and/or colour cut.

you can get the exact code for your paint off a sticker on the inside of your boot door, mine's on the bottom edge (albeit in Italian...)
