Why in the world would you not take insurance documents to prove insurance if you were threatened with prison? To be 'ard? lol....

If he has lost them, it's not like it would take more than 2 mins to arrange a replacement.

Exactly, or the solicitor would get the court to phone the insurer and request details of his insurance, or access some sort of police database etc.?
