Technical Fan belt problem?

:bang: when i start up the car i hear a sqweeling noise for bout 3 seconds, some1 said it cud be the fan belt, can anyone give me some more info? or what else it cud be and how to fix

Had the same prob myself but now it seems to have gone away - on mine it was the belt going to the alternator - it may have to be tighened. Its just a matter of undoing a bolt - the alternator is on a pivot so you can tighten the belt. Make sure you have the correct tension!

I regularly use my car - it had been sitting for a while so it seems to have fixed itself!

yeah this is nromally allways loose belt. very common to hear the noise this time of year when a lil bit of moisture gets on things. the belt then slips makeing a screech on the pully. you may able to tighten it up or if belt is worn/damaged put a new belt on it. like guy above said most likely the belt on your alternator. or maybe power steeerin gbelt if you got one on your model of punto.
