Re: Out of hand

Sorry I didn't update this sooner nigel.

Yes you are correct it has got out of hand and could very easily go on and on.......
As is said before I think it would be a good idea if you stay away form the modifying posts??? Well certainly posts where you whish to patronise moddifying enthusiasts. Would you agree?

As for my invitation....... You are more than welcome to mail me at any time I promise you wont be disapointed. Amazed then scared would be a better discription.

Brian!

How did you find working on the Alfa 75. Whilst (as well documented here!) didn;t like the overall look I still very much admire the work and what must have been hours of patience and quizzickle looks when you did it!

Would you work on another one! I had a lot of 80's Alfa's and althought I loved them (you had to!) they are an absolute bastard to get right, especially the turn in when you alter the front settings. The 75 was probably the worst ever for that, how did you overcome it?

N
P.S. Ignore the aftermath of my original comments, I was actually being critical of the view (opinion), not the work, but the point got missed.

Re: Brian!

I've only just read this thread: how amusing!

I didn't realise the niceties of cutting a hole in the bonnet of your Bravo: apparently, it's bad on a 1.6 and almost essential on a 1.8! Man, why didn't Fiat think of fitting it as standard? Oh, hang on, perhaps because it's pointless and looks stupid...

Since when did front airdams feed air into intercoolers?

The comments about racing cars are priceless. 'A 1.0 Micra becomes a racing car when it races another car'...yeah, right. There's a bit more to it than that, or have you never actually looked at a fully prepared racing car? If you look closely, you'll notice most don't have black windows, 400w stereos, stickers around the filler cap or neon anythings.

LAST MESSAGE

I DONT OWN A FIAT I WAS ASKED TO FIT ONE TO A CUSTOMERS CAR.TOYOTA WAS A PRODUCTION SPRINT CAR .MY RACE CAR IS A SINGLE SEATER FITTED WITH A TWIN TURBO V8. I HAVE BEEN BUILDING RACE & RALLY CARS FOR 20 YEAR SO DONT TRY & BE CLEVER. ALFA 75 WAS FITTED WITH THE STD FACTORY BODY KIT WITH EXCEPTION OF THE REAR WING IT WAS A LIMITED EDITION 30LTR V6 ,ALL I NEEDED TO MODIFY WAS THE SUSPENSION TO MAKE IT A COMPETITIVE CAR I HAD CLASS WINS IN NEW BRIGHTON,ANTREE ,& IN HILL CLIMBS.

Knucklehead

Brian

Lets keep this simple for you.

Some of the guys here, Nigel (I think) included were giving you a large lump of praise for the quality of your work on the Alfa 75. You were asked some technical questions which you didn't actually answer but started mouthing off instead.

I came across this site and thread whilst looking for Alfa 75 restoration and race/road prep and although your work looks good we instantly dismissed you because you are unlikely to understand and interpret written words.

Also, why the capitals, is this what you are used to in the books you read?

The second unfortunate thing is the whole reason of this thread. You obvbiously just do alterations for the sake of making a bit of money. The requirement of an air vent on a Bravo is zero and the YOU should have advised that the people who asked you to do it were wasting theirs and your time and money. But alas you are either too wrapped up in your own ego, race wins or not, to give sound, educated advice. Nobody gave a damn about the spec on the Toyota, although that front spoiler has no effect on air intake - that made us laugh, they said they didn't like how it looked.

I think the first line of you last post summed it up. I DONT OWN A FIAT I WAS ASKED TO FIT ONE.

What?

Go back to your garage and keep talking to the twats that ask for silly boy (no not BAD boy!) mods for their Fiestas and the like....and take that Alfa off your web site, its an embarrasment.

Had you answered with education, wisdom and wit, you may have gained more work, praise and gerneral enquireies and even been asked to give opinion on what people want to do with their cars but to us, you have been dismissed as a knucklehead. Sorry.

We probably wont come back here so you can defend whats left of your credibility to the Bravo guys here but if we were in their shoes we would be very sceptical of your input.

Bonnet Vents

Your point about a Bravo/a needing a Bonnet vent is kinda stupid. Which Bravo/a doesn't need one. If the Owner has mode engine modifications for what ever reason the underbonnet temp may have raised enought to require further cooling. If he has fitted a K & N induction kit, the more cool air you can get the better. Maybe the owner though the standard bonnet is boring, designed to please the majority.
People spend an awful lat of money buying a car and if they want to change the way it looks, handles or performs that is their own prerogative and who are you to pass judgement? So shut up and live in the real world, cause if everybody like exactly the same things this world would be a boring place to live, a bit like your house by the sounds of things

Christ

Put this thread to bed, its really getting beyond a joke.
Each to their own, but in defence of Brian and the Celica- Yes it may look ugly, BUT the scoop does serve a purpose and it will actually increase airflow into the engine bay, it is a scoop and that is what it does.
As for bonnet vents and in particular the F50 vent, these were originally intended for performance cars and to let hot air escape from the engine bay, thus keeping intake and engine temps as low as poss, the result of this is that u will get more power. Some of u may have noticed that when u first drive your car on a morning it seems quicker but once warmed up u will loose a few BHP and it seems to have lost its edge, this is cause the engine and engine bay are now warmed up.

I don't want to offend anyone nor do I wish to appear big headed, but this is why we have a forum so people can help each other out.
PEACE LIVE LONG AND PROSPER and if u can't well just FECK IT!!
bye peeps.

airholes

Spyder, you points about engine temperatures are slightly awry. Intake temperature should be as low as possible (to a point: you don't want icing to occur) because cold air is denser, and contains more oxygen for the same volume.

However, engine temperature is the opposite. For an engine to run efficiently, it needs to be kept hot. This keeps thermal losses when you ignite the fuel to a minimum. The engine will, if the intake is well-placed, produce more power when the engine is warmed up. Also, the cooling systems on modern cars are more than efficient enough to keep engine temperatures in check.

The stupid, pointless air vent did NOT evolve from modders. The minor tweaks that people talk about on this board in no way justify this sort of defacement.

It's nearer to a copy of the scoops that appeared on rally cars in the 80's. These were designed to create greater flow through the radiator, so that the engine temperature could be kept constant. Cooling a rally car is a whole different kettle of fish: the cars spend so little time facing forwards, that it's hard to maintain airflow through the radiator.

Brian:
I don't appreciate a grease monkey questioning my intelligence. I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering, so to be honest I don't feel I need to TRY to be clever. You may be good at twirling a spanner, but you have god-awful taste.

Thank you

Just read the whole of this thread and, I must say I thought it was very entertaining.
As a fairly experienced racer, I thought Brians comments were most entertaining and I reckon he is nothing to do the said company at the start of this thread.

If he is then I do have a couple of questions.

If the celica is a race car, why have heavily smoked windows, it hard enough to see when racing in the wet as it is, without making it even harder for yourself.

The other point on the celica is the lack of a cut off switch - this is a basic requirement as listed in the MSA blue book (book of reg's for those that don't know).
It's a wannabe race car!

Another thing, if the Alfa does not have a bodykit (other than a spoiler), why put it in the bodykit section?

Who is this Brian that posted here? I'm pretty sure he's nothing to do with ams-motorsport.

Anyway, this is just my opinion, but this post made me laugh. Even better than the one when Amit posted pics of his car just after he finished modding it.

Mods

Mods to a car are personal and I don't expect anybody who Mods their own car to give two hoots what some old codger in a nissan micra thinks of it, If I want to spend 6k on a car and then rip a ruddy great hole in the bonnet cause I think it looks good then I will and your opinion is unlikly to change that fact, If I want to rip out the rear seats and put 4 amps and 12 subs there instead then I will, if I want a roof vent, wing vents, 3 rear spoilers, tinted glass, front spliter and anything else I want to spend my goddamn money on I will.

I wouldn't want to see Half a cow or a pile of 40 odd bricks in my living room but somebody saw fit to stick them in the Tate Gallery and Value them at stupid quid. Its a question of taste and I don't care for yours, and I ain't gonna lecture anybody else on theirs.

I have just retunred to this thread!

I like the bit about the cows and bricks!

However most of the slanging here came about because I said their actual work was good (and must be to rebuild an Alfa 75) - but this point was swept under the carpet as were my technical questions but I didn't like what they had done.

Unfortunetly Brian and a few others cant read and went on a slaggin Nige session. Yes mods are entirely up to the individual, but then why ask everyones opinion of what you have done if you dont care. This is a point that keeps getting missed by the likes of yourself.

If people will put a post here saying

"Ive got a F50 Sad Boy bonnet innit wickid main - dont it make me Bravo look monster! What you fink?!!"

they must expect a certain amount of questioning as if they did it to please themselves, as you said, they wouldn't ask opinion as it wouldn't matter.

Honest John

John, at least you're honest about the mods.

What annoys me is people throwing money at a car, and claiming it makes it work better. Most of the mods (big bonnet holes, 17" wheels, black windows, stick-on carbon fibre) make no difference to the car's performance, but they claim it does! It's all vanity.

Re: Honest John

I think u 2 have got the wrong end of the stick! We nutters do it as a hobby.I love cars but there is nothing worse that being boring......To make a car look individual deserves credit! U think its sad to mod a car but if u can safely say u think smart wheels, good spray job and a mint bodykit doesn't look nice u need to take a trip to the nearest Specsavers lads!!!!!!

Hope that makes u see the light????

Al

Re: Re: Honest John

Don't even waste your breath Al, What you're saying dose make sense and I fully agree with you.
Every one has a right to an opinion but not at the expense of been derogatory or abusive towards another person. (Have we seen a post yet where some one who modifies their car takes the mick out of some one for having a standard car? No, not to my knowledge) Let them get on with it Al, it just makes them look like middle aged men who've not achieved what they wanted in life and now feel the need to take there failings out on others.

All I can say about this post is that a couple of the forum users have shown out right what sort of people they are. e.g. Childish, Scornful just generally not nice people.

Re: Re: Re: Honest John

You're so right Rob: by the time I reach middle-age, the one true dream I have is to pay someone to spray my car a funny colour and spend too much money on a set of oversized alloys.

I have nothing against modifying cars, my problem is with all the ratboys who think modifying consists of paint, plastic bits and stuff you can buy in Halfords. Most of these cars look cheap and tatty, and have no improvement to performance.

I've modified several cars myself, but I didn't add ugly body kits, stupid, ineffective wings or other 'flavours of the month'. You're just sheep, following Max Powers every word.

It would be nice to build a proper, fire-breathing hotrod (preferably based on a Model T, or maybe a Y) before I hit middle age, but such projects take a lot of knowledge, money and commitment. I guess that's why you've just got a teatray rivetted to the roof and some cheap wheels.

While I'm here...

Can someone please explain why the text is over here? I keep having to scroll down to read the abuse!
