Yesterday I looked on my mum's calendar and saw"P" (meaning me) had "DENTIST" written on monday. Hmmm I thought, I wasn't at the dentist on monday! SO I tell my parents, whoops they say, we didn't tell you! So I missed my appointment.

It was just a checkup and the rest of my family was going in today (no idea why we were separate, didn't bother asking) and apologised and knew they would have to pay a fee.

You want to know how much the fee was? £20? £25? £30? Nope, £50. £50 for missing a 2-3 minute checkup, £50!!! For gods's sake are they insane? I just bought 2 books I needed for £40 and cringed and nearly cried at doing that, £50 is a lot of money! My parents asked what would happen if we didn't pay, they said I wouldn't have a dentist any longer and the money may be sort through other means. (We have been with this dentist for a good 10 years or so, quite good friends with my Dad as his son is in his school I think).

I thought my parents were taking the **** but no, they were serious! For that 5 mins or so of doing nothing, the dentist earnt £600/hr. Not only that I probably helped his schedule which is always behind.

On top of this I have a new appointment tomorrow so he will get to shove his hands in my mouth doing what he loves, causing discomfort. Also I will be paying for it (despite being financially unable to) because I haven't sorted out my HC1 form yet which as JB said makes the student loan form look like a walk in the park :(

That sucks paul, so close to xmas aswell. (n)

TBH your dentist is obviously a money grabbing one, i did my work experience at a dentists and it is only £20 for a missed check up.

That's what I thought, I had a feeling it was £19 for some reason....

He's a good dentist and a good guy, as I say, nearly a family friend, just amazed he charged us that much. I might just close my mouth too early tomorrow ;)

Steve: AFAIK it would be next to impossible to find a new dentist, plus it's good to have the same one as everybody else in my family. On top of that it's only just over a mile away so I can walk there which is good now I am a pleb.

Nice of your parents to tell you - maybe don't give them an Xmas present as a gesture!

BTW, we are on Denplan - only coz our NHS dentist went private, so decided to stick with him. Price ain't too bad though, considering the work I have had done on my teeth already......

Been to the dentist too this morn for the 1st time in 12 months. Being a heavy smoker I expected to be coming back to see the hygienist etc but no.

Lovely teeth Mr Williams - see you next year :D

Sorry if that aint cheered ya Paul

£50??? that is ridiculous! How much is a check up there?

As you know, I've had a bit of dentistry recently, I went back today to have it checked as well as a scale and polish. So thats a total of four visits, the cost in total?

£31.16

Bargain, cheaper than missing it eh?

I phoned up to query it, still thinking my parents were taking the **** "Mr Harrison, we have had a number of people missing appointments and the previous cost of £25 had to be increased to take this into consideration" was the dentists answer, and I think he also mumbled "And don't you waste my time again you bastard, you will find out tomorrow what pain I can really cause!"

WHat a bastard!

I think the check up costs around £6 or something? I am not sure, first time I have ever paid will be tomorrow, I WILL be saving the recipt to claim on the HC1 form.

Merry ****ing christmas to my dentist lol

The loan form for me was "name address" "i don't want to be accessed" and that was it lol, this looks like it asks loads of stupid questions :(

Just so long as I don't miss my appointment tomorrow I'll get to bite his hand ;)

theres got to be some law some where thats says this is not allowed, or everybody can charge you for being late or missing appointments, dont seem fair that 1 profeshion is allowed to do it but others are not.
there was a notice up in my dentists saying that you will be charged for not turning up or cancelling last minute.

It stated that turning up late for appointments may mean that you are sat there even longer whilst those on time are seen before you.

Paul can you not just go tomorrow pretending you have come for Mondays appointment but tell them you missed the bus and arrived a little bit late?
