Hi folks,

Bagged some 6" round spotlights on ebay the other day as something of an impulse, I was planning on fitting them to the car but am now having second thoughts - mainly because I don't like the idea of drilling extra holes in the bumper.

This is perhaps a little stupid as the existing one isn't perfect - but still.

My car's a black 1000 CLX, so nothing abundantly unusual, if that has any bearing on it. I don't think I'd do it to a special edition one, but maybe I'm just weak :p.

Help me decide. I'm leaning towards doing it - there's something very appealing about tiny, rallyesque cars - but I'm not 100% on doing it.

I'd probably mount them between the headlights, though I'm half tempted to mount them a bit lower down.

Some inspiration...

I think they look good on the rally cars but not sure about 6" spots on a standard car? Maybe smaller ones, say 4" would look better? I think liquidknight has spots on his fantasia

Totally agree.... Rally of 4x4 works well. Not std though.

If your worried about holes don't be. You say your bumper is a bit old, so why not fit them and when your fed up with the look just by a new bumper...they are cheap.

Very nice that, looks brilliant! Great work :)

The idea of trim clips to plug any holes is a really good one - I'll track some down just in case I change my mind.

I guess we'll just have to see how they look when they're on the car...

Anyway, I took the plunge and whipped the bumper off the car earlier. A nice distraction from the interminable welding and grinding on the 900. Yuk.

Drilled the fabled holes, but I haven't put the bumper back on yet. It's an ideal excuse to get some waxoyl on the front panel and check it's not dissolving anywhere (which is doesn't seem to be, but I'll have a proper look tomorrow), for one thing.

If the bumper was perfect, I don't think I could bring myself to do it - but I suspect the car has had a little bump at some point as the bumper is cracked slightly at the top. Makes me feel less bad about drilling a pair of holes in it! ;)

Anyway, pictures tomorrow. It's a lot easier to tell whether or not it's a good idea, that way!

Sorry, promised photos and then didn't deliver...how dare I.

Anyway...

Snapped a photo between the random downpours over the weekend. I think they look quite good, if I say so myself :)

They look wonky in the photo, but aren't in real life

Seems to have attracted positive comments in the real world, so it can't be too bad!

I'll get a photo of the output one evening.

Incidentally, I love the steels on here. So much so, I couldn't bring myself to put the wheel trims back on when I took the X1/9 alloys off for the winter...

Just a slight sidetrak for a second guys, is it normal to have 45watt headlight bulbs? And are they H4 fitment, so I could upgrade them?

The ones on Pippa truly do look like candles.

Full beam + spots:

It's a tad misty out there, but yeah. You get the idea :)

Tried to take one of the front of the car with them on but it didn't really work - so here's one of it from the back.

Thanks for the comments folks - going from 90W of full beam to 200W is a nice improvement - I should've taken one of the full beams without the spotlights, too. Next time...

Only comment is that it idles low with the extra load of the spots - but chances are it won't be doing that much.
