General Experience of DTR

Collected my car from DTR yesterday (currently today)

I'm afraid to say the £1800 respray from DTR is a total bodge job.. completely rushed. and its NOT a total respray. There are harsh lines where they have painted upto tape on the front and rear diffuser. This paint will quite clearly chip away. There is a massive chip on the wing mirror which I'm pretty sure was there before I took it for resrpray. They haven't sprayed up the door sills ; the underside of the bonnet (white bare metal splodges and boot ; the underside of the petrol cap ; the wheel arches are very rough and have not been cleaned/sanded properly before spraying over. there are one or two contamination spots (where they have sprayed over dirt etc)

Even the colour of the paint is very dull and cloudy.. its not at all what I'd expect of a brand new respray.. there is somehow swirls..

DTR say they will sort it but initially stated the lack of painting in areas is due to that it is a basic respray and not what I should have expected.... ?!?!?!

I was due to go to DTR last friday.. booked a £21 ticket to go down to collect but was told the day before that they would need to respray.. (I didn't go down obviously)
Today I paid £67 for a train ticket and went down... They were washing the car when I got there and took 1 hour to finish off the car however still leaving a heck of a lot of white residue (I guess a polish of some description) all over the car and all over the tyres.. they tyres should have been dressed should they not?? or at least cleaned...

Thing is this time I went down to DTR I should have been sleeping for Nightshift 7pm -7am... gonna be a long night!!

Anyway DTR said they'll speak to the boss when he gets back from holiday on wednesday and sort it... I'll be having words.. they'll be sorting it or I get my money back!!

Just to make it clear this will be the third attempt at a respray by DTR!

They admit they are having issues with the bodyshop guy...!

what are peoples thoughts??

I had this quote from my local Fiat dealership bodyshop...

They were very attentive and open. I wish I had got them to do it.. it would have saved so much time and with them being down the road saved so much mileage too!
I could have been more involved with the progress too..

This doesn't sound like the DTR of old..I wonder if they've had a change of management or are cutting costs and putting work (re-sprays) out to the cheapest tender?

Good luck - hopefully they will sort it out to your satisfaction and compensate you for the inconvenience. I am just booking mine in for some work at a new garage and am keeping my fingers crossed.

Hi guys,

Paul from DTR here, we're really sorry Jetweeds paintwork hasn't come out the way we both would've liked and have fully refunded his money in full, including panel repairs made as well as colour change made to his second hand hard top

We're not happy about this situation and have with immediate effect re-alligned our in-house bodywork department.

We have won awards for our paintwork in the past and expect to do so again. Our painter has been with us for the past twenty years and has suffered significant health problems recently, although we are not offering this as an excuse in any way for a problem that is entirely ours.

Fair play DTR for refunding JETWEEDs cash. I thought we were going to see a bitter battle unfold on the forum .

Still its a shame that the paint job handed over the JETWEED was sub-standard and that your Quality department let it be handed over as such.

its a null point now as you have refunded.

Good of you to offer an explanation on a forum!(y)

Wow! I wish garages here would offer that kind of customer care.... (y)

Glad you refunded his money, why did you not just do it again?

Jetweed decided he couldn't wait for us to do it again, which he is perfectly entitled to do. It's a shame because we have a new sprayer starting with us in a couple of weeks and his paintwork skills are truly exceptional so we're looking forward to him starting with us. Which in turn means we'll never have this problem occuring again.

Fully resprayed and polished B looks superb. I've just finished polishing up mine.

Downside is our roads are crap and covered in loose stones and the knackers keep their keys handy to carve anything half decent they see parked up.

Anybody got a large glass case going spare?..I have the enormous mantlepiece and the B is going up there...

I have just bought a black Barchetta from and restored by DTR.
I flew down from Scotland to collect it and drove it back 400+ miles trouble free. I have not had it long enough to comment but the service from DTR was first class. The car was bought without seeing it first and I opted to forego the warranty, there's trust for you ! My other car by the way is a diesal eleganza Fiat Sedici. I am delighted to join the forum and hope to access it regularly.

Hello,

DTR kindly responded to a technical query made recently on the forum regarding rear trailing arms which was of great assistance.

I have also purchased a pair of new trailing arms from them and they were extremely helpful.

By the way it appears that Fiat dealers can no longer obtain the passenger side rear trailing arm for early Barchettas ( obsolete ) but still have stock of the drivers side.

I blogged last week about my satisfaction with DTR.
I did not take out a warranty and opted for a discount instead.
DTR do their own warranty, so it was in effect useless to me anyhow!
But here's the rub! Last week it cost me £70 at my local favourite mechanic
(Ayrshire - Scotland) to repair the windscreen washer bottle.
Tomorrow, the BB (black Barchetta) goes to my local Fiat garage to have the tick-over adjusted. The car keeps conking-out very time I stop.
So, just maybe, I sang the praises of DTR too early.
DTR, you are very welcome to reply!
