ok just got a pipercorss indcution kit for my 2.0 hgt 155. am going to get an exhaust for it and then probably a remap.

have a couple of questions.

a) do you think it will make much difference to performance and worth doing?
has anyone done this to theirs?

b) can anyone reccomemend a good exhaust to get? i want a cat back one without spending a fortune with a nice tone.

c) any idea where i can get a remap from? and would it be worth doing performance wise?

anythinng else not massively expensive anyone can think of to increase performance? going to lower it in next few weeks too

thanks

Pipercross will kill torque.

A cheap exhaust will not gain performance: It will loose you performance. You GET what you pay for.

A re-map is always worth doing when done professionally. After modifications it would be a step backwards to call someone out to do it on your doorstep. It has to be done on the rolling road.

why will pipercross kill torque compared to standard air filter?

ok, can you reccommend a good place to get an exhaust? and what type would be best then performance wise?

also where do you reckon i should get a remap from? and garages in the south? would regal vauxhall specialists do a remap on a fiat?

ta

Filter is wrong and in the rong place, the tubing is too short and technically wrong.

Exhaust would be very good from H&S in Basildon area.

Regal can only do it if they have the software for the particular ECU.

its hard to say if its "worth it", it depends what your expectations are. it wont make much difference to performance on an N/A car.

i wouldnt use a pipercross filter because they use foam.

anything you do to the exhaust after the cat makes little difference, the engine gets almost all its backpressure pre-cat. if you want a cat-back system go to powerflow (franchises nationwide), they build and fit an exhaust made to your own requirements and the prices are fair.

ok thanks

what is wrong with foam? is it that small bits of foam may go into the engine?

would a remap gain any sort of bhp? any ideas roughly how much?

and thinking of just a remus backbox? would that sound sweet, or only if it had the center section too?

foam doesnt filter as well and its more difficult to clean.

a remap will give you a bhp gain, a rough estimate of peak gain from the remap alone would be 5-8bhp.

the backbox is what makes all the noise, so a remus backbox will "sound sweet".

'sound sweet' :D haha i like it.

and thanks for the other info. bit gutted, i got the pipercross second hand for £25 and its hardly been used. now i probably know why!

I have a second hand Pipercross on my 20v N/A Coupe. I agree with the above comments in that it is more awkward to clean.
I made up my own induction pipe to allow a placement in the inner wing area.
As well as this I have fitted a rear back box.

The noise though is amazing.
It goes from a loud individual drumming noise (similar to a tuned subaru flat 4) to a full on harmony of cylinders and valves. Accompanied by the back box which burbles on tick over, and comes on song at full rpm, then burbles on shut off.
I have never had sooooooooooo many comments on a car. ;)

My aim is to have my 20VT sound this good. Stupid Turbo muffles the intake though.

sounds great bridges.. what back box do you have?

and is it just the box, not a replacement center section aswell.

will think about making a homemade induction pipe, as it looks like it would fit well, under where the standard air box fits.. thatsa where im gona try to put it

sounds how i would describe my 20v N/A, i have a BMC CDA, removed resenator boxes and catback system (no idea who made it though)

people always seem to say the 20v N/A sounds much better than the 20vT but after seeing the video of ross's 20vT some time ago i thought it sounded awesome, hope i wont miss it!

as for your mods, just follow the rule of 'do it right the first time', there really is no point buying cheap stuff, you will only be disappointed.

rema-d,

Just back box.
My back box is a universal job. I bought it when my 20v coupe's rear exhaust fell off. I mig welded it on to a piece of exhaust tube of the correct diameter so that it sleeves over the mid pipe. I also mig weled some hangers.

bulldog,

The N/A sounds better, especially as standard. My 20vt has a filter and back box as well.
The difference is that the 20vt just sounds quieter. Also you can't get the engine to make that flat 4 sound by stamping on the throttle at low revs. The reason is because the engine picks up revs too fast, no matter what gear you are in.
The bonus of the 20VT is that the induction once the turbo spools up sounds like it's going to suck in the universe :D and then the pshhht as the throttle is released.

Do you refer to Ross's Coupe in the car park?
Thats how I want mine to sound. I think the turbo engine needs the mid section replacing for a straight through. Then it sounds as good as a tweeked 20v N/A :worship:

cant beat a straight through(y)

as for induction pete aka oldschool is working on the 2.4 induction again and once this is done he working on the 2.0 hgt bravo as the induction is very similar with minor mods.

www.performancestilo.co.uk has just started a bravo section and is being talked about allready.

as for power increases and torque increases, just look at the bottom of this post to see what pete's induction and re-map did to my 2.4, other 2.4's are well over 200 on the same mod(y)

last time i had a chat with Pete regarding a 2.0 20v induction kit was before xmas and he took a look at my car then declared the intake system was too different to modify a 2.4 one to fit.

@ Bridges - yes it was Ross's coop in a carpark

well he has changed his mind, had another look and said it could be done(y)

The tooling has disappeared in the meantime. A new one is on the way, which is a 2 piece one that can be modified easier.
