Hi all, So I have a 2014 Ex BT fleet van and need to change the front brake disks and pads. I bought the biggest disks I could find at Euro car parts, however when I got my mechanic to install them he said the disks and pads on the van already were larger, so I thought best not to install them until I knew they are right.

My question is.. Does anyone know if BT were likley to install beefier parts?

Thanks

Craig.

Remove a wheel bolt and measure the diameter of the thread.
Post result on here.

It

Has 16" tyres if that helps

Unfortunately wheel size is not definitive .
Though it looks like it is going to be a "heavy " chassis but wheel bolt thread size will guide further.

If you have GSF nearby they can be more helpful, call them with vin number and ask them for help. If you can get the correct gsf part numbers order from them online, click and collect is good, as cheaper than buying in store.

As Jackwoo says the H2L3 could be specified as'light' or 'heavy'. But is usually 'light' because that was cheaper with less tare weight (bigger payload at 3.5 tonnes gross)
Quickest way to tell if its the heavy chassis is to lift the bonnet and look at the plate on the slam panel in front of you (the bit that the front of the bonnet covers)

If its the heavy version the rating plate will say 2100kg for the front axle and 2400 kg for the rear axle - and it has the bigger brake discs.
I simply cannot imagine BT specifying the light version with smaller hubs and discs, and then taking them off and fitting bigger ones. If they wanted bigger hubs and discs they would specify the heavy version that comes with them.

Hi 🙂

Maybe try this..

I buy parts from fiat specialist shop4parts

You can search by VIN

and they quote the FIAT part numbers,
Se easy to cross reference

I've found cp4l/euro to be poor on vehicles that have varied options..

So tend to buy with Fiat I/D's as a guide

Reg thanks for that.. saved me from taking a lug nut off. So it seems I have the heavy duty version. Not really good news tbh as I'm notlw panicking slightly my camper is over weight.

No need to panic. I have never heard a first hand account of a motorhome actually being checked for weight. I have only once been pulled into a weight check. My Ducato camper looks liked a plain white van from the outside, so I was pulled over by the police and sent into a weight check with the commercials on the way to Dover. As soon as I opened the side door the inspector said 'oh its a motorhome, we don't weigh those, you can go'. So I just pulled out and drove past the lorries queuing for the weighbridge with no checks at all. Although plated at 3500kg the Heavy is designed for 4250kg. So I wouldn't worry about weight - within reason of course. But I have checked it - just pulled on to the weighbridge at the local scrapyard and asked politely if they would tell me the weight - which they did free of charge because I didn't want a weigh ticket. I have the L4 H2 Heavy fully fitted out, and carry 150 litres of water because I like a hot shower every morning and don't use campsites. But it still comes in below 3500kg

Thanks again Reg that has put my mind at ease! Back to the original worry about sizing disks n pads!

I tried that shop4parts.. not sure where the VIN search function is..

Anyone got any other links to similar site that you guys use?

2014 is a change over year for some parts
There are two different parts numbers for discs
The only way to really know is measure the discs on the vehicle , diameter and height (the distance from on-board friction surface to where wheel presses on disc)

This comes up frequently.

Other option is get both types before fitting and return type that is incorrect.

Yeah you are right, no other option than to get the wheel off and measure up :)

ePer, available via the link at the top of the forum page, or menu if you're on a 'phone/tablet, has data for 2014 vehicles, and will allow you to input your vin, and then search for all parts specific to it. It doesn't recognise all vins (including mine), but you could be lucky.

Alternatively, contact Coastal Motorhomes by email with the vin and they will advise (they're very helpful).

I have had stuff from https://www.carparts4less.co.uk/brake-discs which tends to be cheaper than their sister site https://www.eurocarparts.com/car-parts
They give detailed sizes under the 'specifications' tab
I generally found them pretty good, but you have got to watch 'em on price - their price for varta batteries tends to be much more that https://www.tayna.co.uk/ for example - even after their online discount.
I always order online first to get the online discount even if I am collecting them
And don't order anything that is not in stock - I once waited weeks during which time they were very difficult to contact. Then I gave up and asked for a refund which they did immediately - I think they were as fed up of it as I was.
But it hasn't put me off them.

I think Coastal Motorhomes buy in bulk at trade prices and minimise their profit margins compared to franchised dealers' RRP (which isn't difficult).

If you have a Halfords trade card account they obtain their parts from Euro Car Parts and again with trade card discount they are cheaper than ECP's own retail prices.

But I've had numerous occasions of my trade card account not being recognised at the tills in Halfords stores over the last few months, which seems to be a known issue with their systems according to staff, so to get the discount I have to order online for delivery or click and collect. When I log in to their website my Trace Card details are shown straight away, but it seems impossible to get the card recognised at the tills in store, despite even showing them the physical card!

Halfords are also difficult to contact for customer service, like many businesses these days the only option is online chat and promises that fall through. But if items are in stock they're pretty good.

I had an issue with an order for brake discs and pads last year, which they couldn't give me a delivery date on. After getting nowhere with online chat or follow up emails when I got the complaint escalated to a different department, I found the parts were in stock at my local ECP so I went and picked them up from there but it cost me more. Halfords confirmed to me that they were supplied by ECP but couldn't or wouldn't explain why they couldn't supply me but ECP could directly.

Halfords till staff can enter the trade card number manually into the till-unless trade cards updated not showing number. My card is ancient , hasn't swiped for many years but has number on it.
Cheers

They can and do. They can also locate the account via your email address supposedly. But neither scanning, entering the card number or my email address at the till manually have worked in three different Halfords stores for several months.

When I log in to their website using the same email address, the first thing I see is my trade card account number and details. If I buy online, the discounts are applied, no problem. Store staff have told me that there is a problem with trade cards at the tills, but they seem to have no way of getting round it since they can't pull up the affected card details or recognise the cards at the till to apply the discounts. There are several online posts in various forums where Halfords staff have replied to say it's a national problem, so I know it's not just me, but maybe not everyone?

If I haven't ordered online in advance, I simply do it in store from my phone, select click and collect and when practicable, take the item to the till.
