re: Euro6 1.2 Throttle Response & Hill Start Issues

Good luck brickfoot :) I would find it strange ti be an ecu issue as it should affect everyone if it were, but if it foxes it who cares?

re: Euro6 1.2 Throttle Response & Hill Start Issues

Hi Maxi

Are these ok?

re: Euro6 1.2 Throttle Response & Hill Start Issues

fantastic, when it's not pissing down I'll go and have a look at my engine bay and compare :)

re: Euro6 1.2 Throttle Response & Hill Start Issues

can we get the same photos from a 500 owner with the issues?

re: Euro6 1.2 Throttle Response & Hill Start Issues

Ours has been in twice but they reckon there are no missing bolts.I spoke with Customer Services yesterday and they said there could be an update soon for the ECU.

re: Euro6 1.2 Throttle Response & Hill Start Issues

Drove my parents 2014 Panda again yesterday. It still has throttle issues when you pull away, otherwise its a nice car to drive.
When you go to pull away the engine just dies/hits a flat spot and will then suddenly rev up again. When you want to pull away from a busy junction or roundabout you don't want the car suddenly deciding to pause before pulling away fully. Not only can it confuse drivers behind you putting you at potential risk of being hit up the backside but also at risk of oncoming vehicles when can't pull out normally.
I've tried various different ways of getting around the issue, none of which you should ever be doing with a car, including flooring it and slipping the clutch neither of which solve the odd flat spot.
I've driven a number of different vehicles from cars to tractors since I was small (on private property) and never had a vehicle react like that. My 09 Panda drives fine.

re: Euro6 1.2 Throttle Response & Hill Start Issues

I have driven and owned loads of cars and not had this before

re: Euro6 1.2 Throttle Response & Hill Start Issues

UPDATE:

ECU update has fixed the issue to a degree, certainly better pulling away from junctions and less sluggish. Definitely worth booking in your car for this update. It's free if your 500 is under warranty.

They gave us a 2014 500 1.2 as a courtesy car and that had it a lot worse than ours. When i handed the keys back, i told him it'll be worth sorting it asap cos i could hardly bear it! Thank god we only had that for an hour!

great PR for Fiat - giving out crappy courtesy cars:bang:

re: Euro6 1.2 Throttle Response & Hill Start Issues

So when I came back to this thread and it was on page 11 I thought I'd look over the car again this time with air filter housing off, to see if I could find anything else, and found another manifold bolt missing this time the one under the manifold on cylinder 4. I've fitted another replacement bolt and it's like driving a new car, pulls in forth accelerates up through the gears like my old 59 plate 500.

Hi, I'm new to the forum. I came upon it whilst searching for the problem described which seems to be afflicting my 14 plate 1.2.

I notice there is an ecu update available and I will be booking the car in ASAP, but in the meantime I also have the 2 bolts missing and looking at replacing them. I just need to know what size bolts to get please?

Thanks
Phil

How old is your 500?

I just spoke to Blackpool Fiat and was told no ECU update available? We picked ours up in May 2014. There is a recall for a wiring loom outstanding though.

Cheers

Ours is less than a year old, on a 63 plate. Ours has just had the wiring loom recall done on it while they did the ECU update. We had it done at GMD Fiat in Durham, worth giving them a call for some details and maybe your dealership can do the same if they know what they are looking for.

re: Euro6 1.2 Throttle Response & Hill Start Issues

Sorry meant to reply to this last night. The bolt size I used is M8x1.25 30mm. Really they should be studs but bolts were all I had.

As far as we know at the present time, the missing bolt theory is a red herring. Placing bolts in these holes is unlikely to change anything - but do come back and let us know if you find to the contrary.

Cheers, worth a go for a quid or so though.

re: Euro6 1.2 Throttle Response & Hill Start Issues

Just to update, I fitted a couple of bolts today, I don't think it's made any discernible difference.

The car on the whole does seem to be getting better, but this could be due to any number of things (running in being the main one).

I'll keep an eye out for a fix from Fiat. It may be just that I'm expecting too much from the 1.2.

re: Euro6 1.2 Throttle Response & Hill Start Issues

Our 2011 500 1.2 was fine, the 1.2 is a good engine if FIAT had left it alone. They should have built a new EU6 engine instead of bodging one.

re: Euro6 1.2 Throttle Response & Hill Start Issues

Anyone had a fix from Dealer yet or is there a fix?

re: Euro6 1.2 Throttle Response & Hill Start Issues

The previous engine was already euro 6 compliant though.....

Actually I don't believe the older engines are capable of meeting Euro6 under the more stringent test procedures required now.

The previous version of the 1.2 engine may have met the headline emissions figures for Euro6, but it was only homologated to Euro5.

There's more to Euro6 than just the headline numbers - the testing procedures are more comprehensive and I'd say the overwhelming evidence is that Fiat have modified the engine in order to get the necessary homologation.

There seems plenty of evidence now of both hardware & mapping changes in the latest 500's. I really can't believe they'd have messed with the engine just for the fun of it, particularly given the number of folks that have been seriously unimpressed by the changes. My call is that whatever they did to the 1.2, they did because they had to in order to get the Euro6 ticket.
