How much cable do you honestly need? Then buy one that length, a 4 way switch, and a few patch cables.

my router has 4 ports + wi-fi, i'm already using 2
it would be easier/tider running one cable for two items instead of 2 cables to the same place.

i'm going to use the extra wire to other parts of the house.

Then use the 3rd port - run the long Cat5e/6 cable to where you want it to go [30m one under £10] - plug this into a 5 way switch, and then buy a few small patch cables and plug these into the back of whatever you need to network.

Oh right. 2 devices in the same place. Yep just get a small switch and it will most likely do the uplink automatically.
