Probably stupid question but do you need to rear disks brakes as well as front disk brakes for ESP to be fitted or can ESP work with Front Disks and rear Drums.

The reason I ask is on the spec sheet of my car Punto EVO GP 105 multiair it states ESP as standard, but the car only has drum brakes on the rear and I always thought ESP needed disk brakes all round.

ESP will work on all brake types. As long as the brakes can slow the car down, they will be used. ESP is just a very complex addon to ABS which takes longitudinal, lateral, YAW and vehicle speed into account before applying brakes to the vehicle. ABS doesn't need to be disc brakes so why would ESP? :)
