Technical Engine Cover

Just a question for you lads;

The engine bay looks absolutely mint with engine cover off (just had a look), so I just wanted to know if its purely cosmetic or does it have a use? (Besides to stop with people messing underneath it )

Would it be bad to run the car without the cover?

It also stops water getting into important bits...... some people in the Stilo section ran without it and had no problems, so I dont see why not on the GP

Its only a peice of plastic, wont do no harm to take it off, I prefer it with it on though I can only comment on the M-Jet though

This makes sense, so as long as I don't open the bonnet when its dribbling there won't be any problems?

It's a T-JET, I was concerned about the heat shield on the cover, but I suppose it's just for protecting the cover itself now I think about it, am I right?

for the tjet it has the overboost pipe youd have to replace that if your removing the cover

Ahh good point.. wait. 'Overboost pipe'? Is that the smaller vacuum-like one??

I think he's referring to the recirc pipe.

That heatshield isn't there to protect the cover- it's to prevent heat affecting the bonnet sound-deadening and the paint. If they were worried about the cover melting they'd just have made it shorter.

I was somewhat disappointed when I looked under the cover again.. I think I must have dream't it looked a lot cooler.. :yuck:

yes the overboost recirculation pipe.

its the thicker pipe that runs round the top and left hand side of the cover to the air induction before the turbo
