i am seriously thinking of replacing my annoying little 1108 engine in a punto mk1 55 with something that has a little more grunt.

As i have neva done this before i dont know where to start. Has anyone got any ideas and tips as to what engine to go for that will be cheapish with good power and the least amount of hassle.

Any ideas r welcome, need some serious help.

Thanx

Andy

1108 in Punto 55 is same block as 1242 in Punto 60. Run that, chip it -->Get 90BHp!! Both are FIRE Blocks, use the same Driveshafts, Gearbox, coolant hosing etc...

Its a straight swap.

Ill think of something witty....just wait and see............wait I might not.

The Punto 60 gearbox has higher ratios than the 55's to make use of the engine's extra torque. If you use a standard 55 'box with a 1.2 engine it will accelarate faster than a normal Punto 60, but at the expense of fuel economy and top speed. I'm not sure if the ECU's are interchangeable between the 1.1 and 1.2 either.
What about a 1.2 16v engine from an ELX? 75bhp in early models, 85 in the more recent ones :D

Really... I think it would be easier and ultimately cheaper to just get a Punto with a bigger engine.

You can swap the 55 for the 60 with ease. With a select few mods you can expect to see approx 80 bhp ish. Can be expensive though, would be better to stick with what you have and mod with chip, filter and exhaust
