I'm going to vote Labour as I'm absolutely certain the country will be in safe hands. I'm a big admirer of the way Uncle Gordon sold off our gold reserves. I mean, announcing exacly when you are going to increase the supply of gold on the international market place so that the price drops dramatically was a master stroke. Then there was the matter of exchanging the cash which, as gold sales are in US$ should have been changed to Sterling; but was actually exchanged for Japanese Yen, at a loss. This was then changed into Euros in order to help out his pals in the EC, at a loss, before being exchanged for £s, again at a loss.
Then there's the fact that so many people now work for "the Government" which should ensure that a hell of a lot of people are worried about their jobs if the Tories get in. That'll be all those in "monitoring" positions that check whether or not organisations are employing enough minorities and all those jobs you see advertised that don't actually say what the job is.
Then there are Ambulance Managers who earn over £35,000 p.a. and, despite all being fully qualified Paramedics never go out on the road even though there can be 30 to 40 outstanding "Reds". Quite why they get 5-Series and X5 BMWs with blue strobe lights in the grille as company cars I've absolutely no idea. Cops don't get company cars, neither do Fire Officers, as far as I know.
Then there are all the bus lanes, some of which are undoubtedly useful. But, how many are there in your area where there has never been a history of congestion. I can think of 3 within a mile of one another. When I asked the local Council's Higways Department why these had been put in, the man I spoke to said he had no idea. When I put it to him that this was more about Government targets and asked him why we should have to pay for these lanes he said the money came from Central Government. I happen to know that a Road Traffic Regulation Order needed for this kind of thing costs around £5,000 a time, plus the actual cost of getting the blokes to paint the lines. Oh, and the regulations for bus lanes also require the bus stops to become Bus Stop Clearways.
Then there are Iraq, Afghanistan, immigration, the Scottish Parliament, Welsh Assembly, bailing the banks out for hundred of billions while letting Rover, LDV and Corus go to the wall.
Yes, I think I'll be voting Labour.
While I think of it, whatever happened to the New bit in New Labour?
