Hi I'm currently in the middle of changing my ecu's but I'm having a problem changing the ignition barrel I'm not sure how to do it if any1 could help it would be much appreciated many thanks simon

HI simon not a perfect guide but here goes.

Once you get the cowling off,2 crosshead screws you can then see the full black lock with the barrel in it.

In the pics i've put up you can see in the first pic the bit left of centre on the barrel you can see this bit when the barrels inside the full black lock, put the key in the barrel turn it to mar, just one click up from stop and that makes the metal bit springy it'll only do it when turned to mar so you'll know,no with the key at mar push the springy bit in with the screwdriver and pull the key with your right hand to pull the key and barrel out in one.Might have to use a dry tissue or cloth for grip.

Its quite stiff so keep at it as it will pop out,it can help if you pop of the ecu antenna the circle bit around the key barrel for abit more movement and when using the screwdriver sort of put it in at abit of an angle then come back the way your pulling the barrel out.

If you get the barrel out to remove the lock use the flathead screwdriver to pop off the circlip at the end off the barrel then turn the key about and the lock should come out with the key in it,then do the reverse with the one you're putting in.

When you're putting the barrel back in the full black lock you'll only need to put it in by hand line it up and give a good push till it clicks into place, then try your key to see if all is well.

Ecu

I've got the car running at last woohoo but it's ticking over at a very low idle and I've just drove it down the road and it cuts out on the corners is there an ecu reset thing I have to do I've read something about it on here before but I can't seem to find it would appreciate it if anyone could help thanks

Nice one simon,i should'nt have thought the car should be cutting out,is it a 1.6 by any chance?

Should only have to disconnect the battery for like
45 mins to reset ecu but can leave overnight if you wish.

Nah it's not a 1.6 it's a 1.2 80sx it could just down to my battery being abit low as the car has bin sat for a couple of months, will it effect the new ecu if I disconnect the battery already?

You could leave it as it is just now in case as you say it could be the battery needs a boost, then if it's still the same do a reset, but yes if you disconnect the battery your starting the reset procedure.

Ok cool thanks again bigbravo I'm getting tax on Tuesday so I'm hopeing a couple of good runs to work and back should give the battery a good boost thanks again for the help

I've decided to change the battery but the car is still ticking over at a low idle it seems to drive fine but when I slow down the engine cuts out everytime, I'm leaving the battery off over night to hopefully reset the ecu but if anyone has any ideas as to what it could be I would appreciate the help thanks in advance. Simon

Where's that located on the car? I've disconnected the map sensor and the engine cut out then I disconnected the sensor that comes from the air box to the inlet manifold and the car ran the same. I've checked to see if i have any loose conections but can't seem to find any do you reckon it'll need to be plugged in?
