Right the story so far.

Got a 1242 in the cinq and have extended the 899 loom to fit.

It was at first running the 899 ECU, all was fine but wanted to upgrade. I ordered a chip from gazzaman and an ECU off Fleabay, the ECU is a IAW16f ER. It works well apart from the fact you really have to wind it over before it starts [hot or cold].

Heard that the chip2race ones are better, so have eventually ordered and fitted one.

The result is nothing, no fuel pump and not starting, I have ignition lights and injection warning light, but nowt else.

I tried the fiat chip from the iaw16 and that is the same, no pump and no start.

Anyone got any thoughts?

Cheers all

Chip is in the right way round [had to double check]

FIAT chip does'nt run.
chip2race chip does'nt run.
gazzaman chip does run, but poor starting.

I've already burned out one solenoid on the starter motor, and it's a bugger in the cold weather.

Runs ok on the 899 ecu, but it's no were near as nice to drive. Seems hesitant in comparison.

Just done a bit of digging, looks like the 16f.er ecu has an immobiliser ecu as well, I wonder if the chip2race one does'nt do away with the code box?

Is this bypassable [made up word]?. Or is it easier to purchase the correct ecu?

Which is the correct number ecu without a separate box?

OK, in that case the situation is clear. The gazzaman chip has the immo mechanism bypassed, the others not. Do you still have the ECU that came originally with this car/immo box/keys? That's this 900 one, isn't it? Just put the chip you want to use into that one.

Unfortunatly not possible as the 899 is a IAW 8 and completely different, the chip is square and soldered to the board.

I've seen a page when I googled it in italian, it had a wire soldered into the ecu. From what I could glean with my almost non existant italian was bypassing the immo.

Well, then the other solution is to remove the immo from your other 16f ECU, or buy a decoded one. And I mean decoded, not an ECU that has no immo implemented, this will not help. Then you will also need to unplug the immo box.

Or do as Fingers suggests, replace the whole set.

Only have the one 16f ecu, the 899 ecu is the one that was on the car from new [1995] so is totally different inside the components are all different and set out differently.

Does the code box have to be a pair with the engine ecu? Where does it plug in to the main ecu? My 16f does'nt seem to have anywhere spare to plug in.

Ye ming the 16f is from a sporting and is running great with the gazzaman chip in it, it is just this poor starting i'm trying to get rid of, What chip/ecu combo are you using now?.

The code box is connected through the main plug on one of the pins (do not remember the number from the head, anyone?). It is easier to unplug things on the code box side.

Yes, the ECU has to go in pair with the code box, unless the ECU is decoded, but then you have to make sure the code box is disconnected, otherwise the ECU will recode itself or still refuse to work, depending on how well the immo was removed from it.

Ah I see. This decoding, is it possible to do at home. Or is it a specialist job?

I dont mind fiddling, but my computer skills leave alot to be desired.

Hmm, sounds expensive. Bugger.

Are there uncoded ecu's to be found that would accept the chip, probably be cheaper.

There should be search on feabay uk and de. You are indeed more likely to find an uncoded ECU ready to buy cheaper than to pay to remove the immo somebody like myself.

How much are we talking about woj?

Do the early cinq spurtings have no immo? Or maybe the early Punto 55.

These chips would I assume work with them.

You see, there are older SPI ECUs without the immo. But, they have no immo not because of the hardware, but software. You put your chip inside any of these, and they will complain about the immo code again.

Re. costs, PM me, but I am almost sure it will not be atractive for you, starting with p&p both ways you would have to bear.
