to be honest i looked at taking the metal insides off too.. but after about 15 mins of trying i decided it would never go back right so just left it on

Metal sheet inside the door is not too tricky to take off...but it requires the total removal of the door glass...found this out when changing my door check strap.

Then the install wasn´t done propperly mate, i have aftermarket all round and had to nothing about sound deadening, so something is wrong.

I know yeah, i rushed it. At the moment too the drivers door speaker aint even working. I only noticed it when i went over a bump and suddenly i felt some bass on my leg! Problem also is with the tweeter cover, i broke the clips so i glued it back on. Now i'll have to take it off and start over. I would like to take it all apart and do it properly and i just aint got the time (or weather) to do it because it aint no 5 minute job! Damn u Fiat!

If you take it to a specialist, they will charge you an hour´s work, even though it will most likely take them less time, it´s provably worthied as they will also configure your headunit to get the best sound all round possible, in any case i think what´s rattling is most likely the speakers themself.

I'm pretty sure its not the speakers, possibly the crossovers but also the door trim is missing a few screws so i know everything is not as screwed as well as it should be.

Unfortunately i have terrible working hours, monday to saturday, 10am till 7pm so i dont have the time.

.

Dead speaker? Lots of rattling? Sounds like it's pretty well screwed to me :p

Another thing to check with that though is the grilles. One of mine was coming off and rattled like a b*tch. A bit of 'sticks like sh*t' sorted that out though :D

Just a quick post... having just got a very nice 2x Din DVD/FM/CD ect.. player in my Stilo, i wasn't keen on having standard sound.. so rather than put yet another huge sub + Amp in the boot and wasting what little space there already is in there, i decided to put 2x 8" Sub's in the front doors.. and it sounds brilliant !!!!!

Well unlike some of the others, I think you've made a great choice (y)

Basically you're treating the sub as a full-range speaker (no crossover - am I right?) so it is serving as the original speaker did, with the response rolling off naturally at higher frequencies due to the size of the cone. I bet it's doing a fair job of mid-range too, so you're still getting a good sound-stage. As you mentioned, the tweeters are still there to do their job.

And, it will be more solidly-made than the original speaker, so there will be lower bass (of course). I'm sure if the manufacturers could, they would put 8" speakers in the doors (my 1990 Celica had that as standard!)

As teenage girls say, "I'm soooooo over..." ...having a big sub in the boot. It's the most unsubtle thing since a punch in the face, and what happens the day that you need to fit a coffee table (etc.) in the car... What you really need is something that adds to the music without obliterating it with a sonic boom. I'm sure your 8" door speakers do just that. Good on you for having the courage to try it. And as for those that do like a sonic boom, good on them too ;)

Cheers!

That isn't going to happen with them subs. There's very little mid-range going through them and the standard tweeters do nothing without some mid-range in place. Subs that can cope with both mid & low ranges are going to be expensive. You only need to look at the best builds in the game to see that subs so far up front isn't ideal.
