Hi All

There seems to be a on going common problem with Fiat Ducato 2013 to 2018 air bag ECUs.
This problem is a hard code fault B0100-49 ( Error inside of control unit )
This problem can be caused by a high / voltage into the ECU.
As it is a hard code fault the ECU can not be reset as with a Multiecuscan and has to be repaired / reset by a specialist repairer or replaced with a new one.
Has any other persons had this problem.

Quite a few people, predominantly motorhome owners as it's more prevalent on vehicles that sit around allowing the battery to go flat or where owners tinker with the electrical systems and don't follow safe battery disconnection procedures.

The ECUs aren't manufactured by Fiat. They are made by TRW who supply similar ECUs to numerous manufacturers and similar faults can occur in any vehicle as all ECUs can be susceptible to corruption from voltage spikes or drops.

There are several companies that can repair SRS ECUs with memory corruption or other issues, relatively cheaply. Crashdata.co.uk are one such company, currently around £60 for a repair AFAIR.

My 2012 X250 recently had this problem, same error code B0100 on a TRW unit. I got the unit to Crashdata who did the business in a fantastically quick turn-around of 3 days (dropping it off at a post office in NE Scotland to getting it back installed).

The fault was a power supply problem, although the supply tripped at a recorded 14.5V according to the data printout supplied (which I did not think was that high considering we have a 14.4V 140A Alternator) I can only assume that it was starting the engine whilst the mains was plugged in and feeding our habitation (it is a motorhome). Maybe just a glitch. The habitation charger from Sargent has a three-stage charge profile, the stage 2 voltage rises to 14.4V then only at stage 3 will it drop to 13.6V float charge.

Since the SRS module reset, all appears as normal. We only start the engine with the mains removed now. I have also subsequently added another engine earth strap, just to be on the safe side in case there may be the usual problems down to the corroded strap.
