General Ducato 11 gearbox

My earlier posting of noisy gearbox has just got worst. The gearbox is so noisy when driving that the vehicle cannot be taken out on the road at all, everyone stares in amazement. The noise is the first motion shaft? I'll let you know how i get on, but so far i have prices for recon repair to the shaft at £200 once the gearbox is taken out to over £2000 for a new gearbox. A garage today told me you need to cut the gearstick selector to get the box out. This was a main agent, so sounds more cost. Anyone else had their ducato gearbox out/back in? what problems have you had?

I'm having similar problems with my Ducato 2.8 Diesel gearbox (2001) after only 16,000 miles. Gears crunching and slips out of 1st gear. We've been quoted £2225.50 for a new gearbox. Fiat's only comment so far is that the vehicle is out of warranty.

problem resolved and everything renewed. gearbox from gearlink salisbury, under £1200 inc vat fitted. Certainly made a difference to my van...
