Everyone i mean everyone says drop your car right? So ok here it is im thinking of buying some new 50mm lowering springs of my mate brand new. Will they fit and will i be able to move the car comfortabley and steer and manage speed bumps etc...? There 50 mm and i currently have 17 inch low profile alloys. let me know. obvo i aint a clue how to fit them so its gona be a garage ripping me blind but never the less it needs done haha.

your wheels might rub with them being 17" and the car being lowered 50mm. i hate speedbumps and ever since my car has been lowered i have just avoided them. Its easy to fit them yourself if you have the tools

Vulcom, what tyre size are you running on those 17" wheels? That could prove critical in deciding what tolerances you are working to. As for changing the suspension, if you've got a reasonable tool set and coil compressors (about £20), I am sure a forum member will talk you through it. I have done fronts, and know the procedure for rears.

Iv got low profiles on. There like inch big haha. Will it rub ? Cause i dont want to do it if it rubs cause its just rubbish. Yeah there 17"'s with low profile tyre like really small. Ill get it done at garage but wondering will it be bad the rubbing or will it sit fine?

As long as your rolling radius is the same as the stock 165/65 R14, your offset is the same as stock and your tyre width is no wider than 195, then there should be no problems with rubbing. Am I right in saying you are running 195/35 R17 tyres? If you are running anything bigger than that, you are likely to hit problems.

Essentially, rubbing is a symptom of the wrong tyre/wheel size, regardless of whether you use lowered springs or not. The suspension should be able to fully articulate to maximum compression without fouling the arches. This maximum is limited by the bump stops, and should be no different with stock or lowered suspension, it will just be more obvious with lowered suspension, since the car sits closer to maximum upward articulation.

Sorry to hijack this thread but ive also been looking at getting some 40mm springs for my mk1. Thing is, most people say i should replace the shockers as well because the stock ones will die soon after replacing the springs.

Is replacing the shocks a must or will the stock ones last?

Yea they look awsome but not sure 17s would fit would they? Im desperate to drop but my mate only got 50mm lowering springs and i got 205/40/17 so hopefully they would fit without rubbing? Is that true karbine?

I'm no good with wheel sizes in terms of rubbing. Sorry
Could always get smaller wheels I guess? Don't you find 17's are bad for handling?

To be honust mate nah. i stick to the road like glue and for handling its like having a powersteering car proper good m8. I found out these springs only 30 drop woo so panic over. haha.
