General Dont let fathers near your Stilo!

Well I bought my Stilo last week, a 3 dr 03 1.6 Dynamic. Its been great so far, nothing wrong yet, all going great. My dad wanted a try this morning. He drives a Saab 95 soft top and as a passenger has been really complimentary of my Stilo - he used to take the **** out of my bravo, calling it a toy car, the rattles, squeaks etc...

So I let him drive it this morning, out for a bit of Christmas shopping. He got in, turned on the city mode, impressed by this 'gimmick' I quote, and reversed down the lane, we live up a little tight lane way, and reversed straight into the side of the house....!!! I was livid in the passanger seat.

The drivers wing mirror is hanging on its last... will drop off any min I suspect though the bodywork is mark free.

Went to Fiat at about 11, Mervyn Stewert for anyone who knows... Apparently after looking on the fiat computer with my chassis number, my car has the electric operated mirrors with memory control and therefore the whole unit needs replaced.

Priced at 104 + vat for the wing mirror unit, 26 + vat for the cap that covers the mirror, this is to be primed and painted the body colour for x + vat ( bodyshop closed until the 29th.) The door card needs removed to get at the electrics covering 2 hours labour at about 80 inc vat.

My dad is looking at a 250 quid repair bill for a new wing mirror! SCANDAL!

Its booked in for the 29th December. Hope this aint a start of things to come.

This is one of the downsides of all these neat little electic gizmos they cost £$€ to repair.

I now think you need to take your dads Saab for a drive

Bad luck Paul. Hit him a kick in the b*ll*cks and he won't do it again. You must be gutted.

Also, try getting a quote from Parkgate. They are over on Parkgate Avenue in Sydenham. I find them cheaper that MS for almost everything...

Annoyed yeah, though he is paying and wants to get it done at fiat so its done right - he does feel bad as its new so im not too bad - 29th will roll in, and thankfully its body work damage free - the wing mirror took the damage. Thought i thought differently when it went to the wall - the noise was ear hurting. :bang:

He said he misjudged the laneway and the car - he has no problems getting the Saab down it, and to be fair it is a tight squeeze.

Well the parts been ordered from MS so as long as he's ok paying for it there, then so be it.

OMG, after just one week of ownership.. Roll on the 29th, all will be forgotten once you get it fixed but it must be really infuriating.
I go nuts if someone puts a finger print on my car so im never letting my mad old man drive it, the blokes a nutter.
I Refuse to go in a car when he's driving and I will not let my kids go near his car, for some reason he thinks there's a lane on the outside of lane 3 on the M3. If you don't move over when hes comin he'll just go round.. I told him hes an asshole, but it just goes in one ear and out the other. He drives right up peoples arses and makes being a passeger really edgey..

Sorry to hear about that Paul. As I read your account of what happened I really felt that mirror going and I went through in my mind what you must have gone through at the time. I think I would be really sick. Still it's happened and you are on your way to getting it fixed. I feel sorry for your Dad as well, he must have been well gutted too.

Its suprising how loud it is when its just a wing mirror that takes a hit, I know what goes through your mind, maybe they should make em like rubbery so they just go Twang and bounce back..

I clouted a door mirror once and thought i'd taken the door off.

OT: Why do they call door mirrors wing mirrors? I'm old enough to remember wing mirrors mounted on the wings.
