...cos I just had my fuse box open, and there's no fuse where the abs fuse should be, but more worryingly when I tried to fit one it just slid back out as if there were no contacts for it to bite to.

Oddly I see that I do have a fuse to operate my non-existant rag top :p

Secondly - just as a quick check before I place my order for an ITG filter for my Sei, I assume that the spi uses a panel filter rather than a ring?
Mine uses a ring type... which is knackered :p

No... not all Mpi seis have abs. Think it was an optional extra, but the Schumacher's had it as standard.

Hmmm, interesting...

...anyhow, answered my own question about the airfilter really - bit of in depth googling sorted me out (along with a little help from merlin motorsport (y) ).

I really wish that I had kept the autotrader print out of my car, 'cos the advertisement said it was ABS - and this is just one more kick in the nuts from Carrington Car Sales.
I love my car to bits but that's no real comfort when I pour through her service history, and realise that between me and the 1 previous owner I've spent the most money, and have 4 times as many reciepts!
Might sound like I'm just whinging on that note - but when you concider that the last owner had her from new in 2001, and I bought her at the back end of July.... scary stuff.

Anyway - back on topic - so I'm guessing that by my not being able to actually fit a fuse for the abs, that would be a pretty good indicator that it's not a feature on my car?

Drive the car, slam the brakes on. Lock the fronts and you don't have ABS. Don't lock and you do have ABS.

It's pretty obvious if you have ABS as you have an ABS unit sitting in the engine bay near the servo and the brake fluid bottle is in different place.

TBH you don't want it as the system on these cars is not very good so I wouldn't worry about it.

Test complete - conclusion? - No ABS

Did make a quick check just to be sure, and you are quite right (y)

I've seen loads of sellers say ABS when an engine bay shot proves otherwise.

To be honest, i have heard only bad from people about it. If I had it I'd ditch it!

Count yourself lucky :D

If you want to double check you don't have it, look at my brake res in my conversion thread, that's non-abs, ABS look quite different around that area.

Thats second hand cars for you. Its like a lottery, we get good ones and get bad ones.

Previous owners could've known something may be awry so got rid, leaving new owner to pay out for the problems

As for stating car had ABS, dealer may not be clued up on vehicle so just could've copied a spec sheet from another advert etc

before i settled on my sei mpi i test drove a few sei's to get a feel for which one i prefered and tbh the ones with abs i tested seemed a little dull.
it didnt have the edge that the none abs cars had its weird to explain but its just a feeling you get while driving it.

also air-con is a bit naff on the seicentos aswell didnt seem to go cold

lol - my air blowers produce colder-than-hot™ air... odd, but can't seem to figure out why - and I've read loads of threads where people complain about this on the Seis. In any other car common sense would have told me that the pollen filter needed a change, but since the Sei doesn't have one I'm guessing that it's perhaps caused by something buggering up the pipes that draw in the cold air?

I thought when I test drove her that she didn't feel like ABS - and finding the missing fuse situation I just assumed that was why.
Tbh, I prefer it without :)

Cant believe you have air con! One of the rare few!

Have you considered taking it to an air con place? It may just need re-gassing (not too bad) or you might have a leak somewhere (a bit bad) Youll know either way if you take it to a specialist

oh she produces hot air lovely - will be great come winter ;)

How do you bleed that part of the system?

Also, how do I know if she has air con or not?

The heater bleed is the one in the engine bay at the back, standard engine bleed procedure.

If you have air con that "button" on the right hand side of the fog light, will work, on most its a blank button that does nothing :)

You mean the pipe that's pretty much dead center of the bay, that pokes through the firewall? - I take it its a case of bleed in the normal way as per the Rad?

"That Button" does nothing in mine - so none A/C methinks :p

damn... 'cos I've already tried bleeding that (assumed it was for internal heaters/blowers).

I think there must be something going wrong somewhere inside the heater/blower pipe system, because you can actually feel it sucking cold air in to the system from the vent under the windscreen - but the end result inside is at least 5 or 6 degrees hotter, and this is the same regardless of the weather.
