Hi all.

The windscreen wipers got stuck solid a few weeks ago, and I suspect a burnt motor. Having used our other car in the meantime, I now have to attack the Cinq and see what's wrong.

I have got a parts shop in Germany to supply the part (the Fiat OM parts in this country cost and arm and a leg, so I haven't even checked with them on this occasion), but they ask whether I want a Magneti Magnelli or a ZEM motor. Does this indicate that there are two different mechanisms or different wiring harnesses, or is it simply a case of two different wiper motor manufacturers?

I was going to get the Marelli motor (or that was the plan) as they are cheap and cheerful even if they don't last forever... but do I need to remove the mechanism and old motor to check before I order the motor in case it may not fit?

Any views/suggestions?

Removed the mechanism + motor earlier today, and it has a ZEM motor on it.

Will get one of these then (even if it is dearer) to avoid any compatibility issues.

And, the mechanism was rusted solid. Of course :) Will have to address that before fitting the new motor.

dismantle there may be an easy salvage

Worthwhile trying the motor first. Of course, it may have died because everything else was rusted up!

I think that's exactly what has happened. The motor smelt like old burnt tobacco when I opened up that black protective plastic bag, so I'm convinced it's bust.

Ordered a new motor this morning, so will now clean and copper-grease up the mechanism while waiting for the motor to arrive :)

Thanks, peeps :
