Hi,

I need to change the gearbox in a 1.2 8V, 51 reg punto.

The current gearbox is shot. I went to the salvage yard to obtain a replacement but i found some differences

Mine has a cable running to the top of the box, where the replacement has a shaft / rod/linkage.

Can these mechanisms be swapped or do i need to find one with the cable arrangement on.

Is there an easy way to determine what box i have so when i ring national suppliers i ensure that i get the correct one

The donor car was from the same year but is different !!!

Thanks

yes you can swap them the box is the same just the housing is different on top just un bolt tit and bolt yours down instead basikly the hole aloy casting bolted to the top supporting the cables and rods excetra is interchangeable from box to box

aslong as the box came of a 1.2 8v it will be the same ratios

and you will need some 0 gap sealer to re seal the casing on the top you will see were it goes when you remove it

any more questions just ask

you have a 514 gearbox as fitted to fiat 1.2 and 1.4 engines

but you will need one from a 1.2 8v engine to keep the ratios the same

Thanks for the reply, will get that box and try some "metal surgury".

I tried to get a 514 type box, but when you ring the salvage places and say "514 type box" you get silence, then "it is from a 1.2 punto so will be OK" !!

Will let you know what happens
