i have fitted a mk2 sporting block to a mk1 sporting. the engine has the original head and rocker cover of the mk1 engine including all the inlet, alrternator and starter ect. the mk2 block has the mk2 sump and bottom pully on it which is not able to fit the power steering belt because you wud have to change the oil pump and sump for the senor to line up. anyway. i had the engine runnin for the first time yesterday and it seems to be making a very loud rubbing noise. and when you look down at the alternator belt it looks like the alternator pully is spaced out wider that the bottom pull so the blt is on a slight angle so it looks to be rubbin the side of the belt. (hope you understand that as i have just confused myself writing it:confused:) is the any difference between the mk1 and mk2 alternator ?

thank you
jay

All the other pulleys are now Mk2 so looks like they are slightly different from Mk1. Unless a pulley expert knows, the only way to confirm is compare a Mk2 alternator & pulley to your Mk1.

A breaker may do a swap or put yours on ebay.
