Hi all,

We appear to have a diesel leak only when the engine is running and located at the front of the motorhome.

Any ideas on what could be causing this? We are currently away and wondering if safe to drive home before taking to garage (about 2 hours away)?

Thanks

Forum member @rayc has had the same thought as myself. The UFI make of fuel filter, which is sometimes reffered to as a "green" filter, was fitted to at least some x244 (pre 2006), and to x250 (post 2006) vehicles. My 2006 x244 has an all black (green???) filter. The filter has a reputation for developing. The cause of the leaks may be due to the correct tool not being used when servicing.

In both models the filter is located in the LH rear of the engine bay, behind the air filter.

I would not recommend driving the vehicle any considerable distance. What happens if the leaking fuel comes into contact with a hot exhaust system? Also the leaking fuel would present a hazard to other road users. Illegal.

I'd just like to chime in and say that the same thing has happened to me and as others have indicated it was the fuel filter housing. They seem to be a bit fragile and easy to break.

It’s very very common after a filter element change.

The filter housings are ok as long as you use the proper tool to hold them when changing the filter.
But some people don't bother getting the proper tool, crack them in a vice, and blame Fiat when they leak.
