As Jai reported on progress with his garage, thought I'd show what mine looked like. A few hours later, the Uno was unearthed - Warrant of Fitness granted, relicensed - and on the road. Garage still not very tidy, most of the clutter merely shunted to the other side

Only problem for WOF was the horn not working. I gave it a few hits with my hand while the tester pressed the stalk switch - a sound was heard, so that was a pass. I have now fitted two FIAMM disc horns (made in India, one high, one low) which are lightweight and give a sound similar to the old 128 saloon.

Photos show FIAT Club Fun Run to Kawhia via Te Awamutu and returning via Ngaruawahia - a lengthy return trip of about 200 miles - vehicles: Ford Capri, Nissan Primera, FIAT Punto, FIAT Coupe 16v Turbo, and mine. Many of our members were busy with the Targa Bambina road rally that weekend.

It was quite hard work keeping up with the yellow Coupe (fiatdownunder on this forum!) and you can imagine the shakes and rattles, bangs and crashes, the wastegate chatter and the brake squeal, the hard work on that super-light and very lively steering to keep it on the road, and then a quick check of the speedo to show only 55 mph/90km/h :)

My Uno has averaged 415 miles per year over the last four years, so this was a BIG day out for it! :p

Alex - Pleased to see a garage like that.:)

I am going to show my other, she won't moan about my garage!.:)
Though to be fair I have about 5 sheds which means I can spread it out more!:D

Yes I know - I spent 2 weeks in London out of 5 weeks in the UK - 2007.

I can see why it is difficult to find space for a garage.

Good idea to live in the colonies, or South Wales or Scotland, more room here and there!.

I'm in South Wales and I don't have a garage. Am I special? :(

Thankfully, the road I now live on, although narrower, is quieter than the one I used to work on.
One day, I'll own a driveway like my dad - as Chas can testify, it has 3 Jags, 2 Unos, 1 Ford Transit box van, one Nissan Primera, a 1970's Russian Cold war nucluar decontamination truck... and a speed boat.. and still space for another 2 small cars to park in. :D

What Jags has your Dad got Ucof?

Londons crap for garaging, prices are rediculous (averages about £45 a month, but `Dudrich` have most lockups now & usually charge about £60 a month).

Leave an untaxed car outside now (say to do some work to the garage) & expect it to be towed, & sometimes crushed, within 24 hours.

Redcorn, north Londons biggest breakers send blokes out on mopeds every day to find untaxed cars, as soon as they find one, they immediately call it in & get a tow truck down within an hour as they have a council contract.

They are like Londons automotive maffia... crossed with grasses...

They`ve had several cars off me, including a Mk4 Escort that had my credit cards, driving licence, tools & clothes in a bag in the boot (which they crushed AFTER I`d called them several times to get my stuff out the boot within 6 hours of it going) & both my Alfa 164`s.... :tosser:

One of my friends left her Mitsubishi GTO outside here for me to work on, left it at 11pm, by 7am the next morning it had been towed... I`m in a normal backstreet too, it turned out the cheque she got the tax disk with had bounced... it ended up costing over £500 to get it back.

If you love cars, London really aint the place...:(

Two Daimlers and a Sovereign if I remember correctly, but most people haven't heard of either, so I just say Jaguars and they go "ahhhhh...right." :)
Daimler Sovereign . . . :slayer:

Even up here in the North West www.lockup.garages.co.uk have been buying up garages and raisinng the rent to £50 per month by direct debit
I know because they bought one that I was already paying £35pm for and they said they were upping the rent to £50pm...so I told them to stuff it
Found another just round the corner managed by a local Surveyors that costs £96 a quarter
Still have another down near my folks in the Midlands that has cost £30pm for YonKs

When we lived in central London in the late 90's we binned our cars off

BaR-STewards.. we thought it bad enough just over ten years ago that Campden Council would issue us a Residents Parking permit for the CHeeKy fee of £80 per year....until we THEN found out they issue twice as many permits as there are residents parking spaces...AND in the small print of your permit it says you cannot leave you car in any particular residents parking bay for more than 48 hours at time...if you did they would tow it and charge you £150 to get your own car back even though it hadthe correct permit and was in a designated residents parking space.
Some of our mates in central London who still had their cars would spent 1 or 2 hours every other evening just driving around to find another empty residents parking space just to move their car to...MaDNeSS...hence we binned our cars off

I worked it out that with the money we saved on High Insurance, Road Tax, Residents Permit, the odd parking fine . . . when totalled up for a year.... we could afford to walk just up the road to Russell Square and hire a brand spanking new car from Hertz every other weekend and still save money over the cost of having our own car....

I like the uno Alex, it looks smart

Thanks :)
I have a 156 as the 'nice' car, so the plan with the Uno is now to keep it plain and simple (I had in the past tried to make the Uno more modern and comfortable but that wasn't a great success).

White is indeed a great colour for hiding small dings. The rear quarter has a string of small dings at the bottom (above the sill, behind the door) - been there for eight years now and I just don't care :)

The 156 lives outdoors, the Uno and the (dead) 164 live in the garage. We all know that the newest and most expensive car should be the one outdoors, since it's best able to withstand the elements ;)

I do like the Elise with 'roof trash' - some might say "as posh as tweed trousers with paint on" :D
