Mates brovo has died, his cambelt went!

Apparently the head has cracked etc. What is he looking at in terms of cost realistically? He has been quoted £1300 so far

Any advice?

Cracked head!! eeek!!

That is one expensive thing to fix!!

You would probibly be better getting a reconditioned engine and getting that put in, that would still cost about 500-650 quid!

Its a 1.4 8/16v i think, not an HGT.

As i say its my mates. Hes quite keen on the recon engine idea. Any ideas where we can get one? And anyone to fit it??

Cheers for the help guys.

Wow, didnt realise they were 12v, lol!

Have tried, no such luck tho!

He should do himself a favour and replace it with a 1.2. The 1.4 is a poor engine and the improved fuel economy from the 1.2 would pay for the engine in a year.

Have you tried ringing some of the companies that advertise engines in the back of the autotrader. Theres always someone wanting to do a deal. Should be less than half of £1300.

Don't know where you're located, but there is a place close to Glasgow that quoted my £1200, supplied and fitted for a recon 1.4 12v engine. They are supplied with a 12 month/12,000 mile warranty. They can also arrange for collection within 600 mile radius (Not sure of the cost of that though).

They've also quoted me £300 for a camshaft and follower kit, or £425 fitted.

The number is 0141 6412888.

Good luck,

Carl
