Hi,
I have 2013 Ducato maxi 130multijet, recently noticed that the daytime running lights (DRL) are not working. They used to be on all the time when the engine was running. Now they only come on when I turn the dipped beam on.
I am aware that on some ducatos you can turn DRL on/off in the menu when the key is turned to "MAR" position, but unfortunately this option is not available on my van.
I've checked bulb, fittings, fuses. Everything seems fine.
My next though was to try rebooting the BSI (Body System Interface) to see if it solves it.
Other than that I'm not sure what to do without taking it in to a fiat specialist.

Anyone had similar issues?
Any suggestions?

Cheers

DRLs should go off when dipped beam is on. If using a dual-filament bulb, or an LED, they should dim to normal 'sidelamp' level.
I'm not familiar with the lights on your model, are you sure you're looking at the DRLs when the headlamps are on?
First check of course, is the bulbs. They tend to have a short life, as they're on most of the time.

Thanks for the quick response.
It used to be the case. They went off when I turned the lights on, but now they not come on until I turn the lights on. So they pretty much work opposite:)
(I'm fairly sure it's them, 5w little bulbs same as the sidelight located within the headlights)
Could the problem come from the relay in the engine bay?

5w bulbs are the sidelights. These will always be on with the headlamps. DRLs are usually 10w. They are meant to be brighter than sidelights, hence the higher wattage. I'm guessing both bulbs are blown. The handbook should show them, and how to change them.

Okay, my bad. They're called sidelight(w5w) within the headlights.
The bulbs are fine and they work when the lights are on.
I called them DRLs because they used to be on all the time when the engine was running (without the lights turned on), that included the front and the rear sidelight, but not the amber colour ones on the side of the van.
Now they only work when the lights are on.
Is there a way to get them back to work without switching the lights on? Sort of turning them into DRLs?

Now I'm not sure if they were faulty before and sorted themselves out or they worked as they were supposed to and now I hey have a fault.
The manual doesn't say much about them:/

They are dual wattage/dual filament (21/5W) bulbs. 21W for the DRLs and 5W for the position lamps (sidelights). First check is have you got the correct bulbs fitted? Are they fitted correctly of have they been forced into the holders upside down? Have the filaments blown? The logic for the DRL illumination is controlled by the body computer. They should turn off when the headlights are on, or when a direction indicator is flashing on the same side. I think they are also "fused" by the BCM - that is they don't have separate fuses, but the BCM will turn them off if there is a fault. Quite often that is simply a faulty bulb somewhere in the circuit, so check the rear position lamp bulbs and the amber side marker bulbs as well as the front position/DRL bulbs. Even a slightly high or low resistance such as poor contact or corrosion in one of the bulb holders or the lamp earth can cause a problem.
