Hi, I have a creaking noise when driving very slow about 5mph. this happens when i have drove for about 30 mins. i have had drop links changed, power steering shaft changed and both top struts changed, it went away for about a week now it has come back again. if i move the steering wheel very slow it sounds like a grinding noise, when i press the city button, it eases of for a bit then comes back . Any ideas please? could it be the power steering motor on it's way out ? I've booked in to dealers on fri.

Problem solved.

i was taking my punto into dealers(not a fiat 1, but where purchased) and the same thing happened to me, a slight grinding noise on left turn didnt notice it turning right. Well its caused a right fuss cos theyve had the car 3 days and wont give it back!! So that might be the reason why. And the best of it is they have totally ignored the real reason it went in(airbag warning, all dash not working but all lights illuminated- remedy is a software update)

Soz if i have hijacked the thread

I got the technican from Fiat To drive the car, while i sat in passenger side, he done all the normal routine by turning the wheel fast from left to right, he said he could not hear anything, untill i told him to drive very slowly, about 5mph and turn the wheel slightly. He then heard the noise, while he was driving the noise was getting worse.

I had the same problem on my old 1.4 active sport. Some electric motor in the steering column had burnt out so they had to replace the whole thing, was still in warranty though thank god.

I think that I have the very same problem. When either stationary or driving at slow speed, if I turn left, I get this creaking noise that I would describe to be similar to a creaking bed.

Its only when I turn left and seems to have just happened out of nowhere.

Will I be fine to have this seen to under the 3rd year of my warranty? I have a 56 1.9 MJet GPS.

Is it just a case of going in and asking for it to be repaired under warranty? Ive never done it before.

Take it to your Fiat Dealer and ask. and see what they say.

mine is sort of the back passenger side but also the back drivers side aswel
Could be Rubber mountings on back suspension dry, get some silicone spray for rubber, don't put oil on it this will deteriate the rubber. mine creaked a bit from the back, and the silicone spray cured it .

I got this sort of noise the other day- but it sounded like it was coming from the rear passenger side wheel?

Is you noise coming from the steering rack/ column?

Where is the main rack located? Is it central? The noise appears to be coming from the front passenger side and is most obvious when at rest.

I thought it was just tyre noise (as I had a puncture when I noticed it) but having had the puncture repaired, I can still hear it.

On Sunday, driving home from a nice afternoon out I heard some rumbling sounds from under my car when I was caught in slow moving traffic.

But then last night I took my car out for a run and no matter what speed I was driving at, or what the surface of the road was like, I couldn't hear anything wrong.

I'm puzzled, but pleased that the noise went away, though I'm also a little concerned, as my 3 year warranty is up this weekend...

I got mine back today(1.4 dynamic 06plate btw) and guess what dealer couldnt find anything wrong. Although i can no longer hear anything. Im suspicious as to whats wrong as when salesman offered a look at car it had only been traded in, so it had abald front left tyre and on test drive pulled to left. Someone in trade informed not to worry about it as new tyre would cure.
So pick up car and even with new tyre there was still an obvious drift to left.
Dont notice anymore, im assuming ive got use to it. My steering is very light are all puntos like this??
Many thanks

I had this problem about two weeks ago, it sounds like springs popping in a mattress. The technician listened to it and said he thought it was the top joints on the front suspension twisting with the turning of the front wheels. They replaced these on warranty (3rd year) and the problem has stopped. Hope this helps mate.

My M-Jet drifts to the left and the answer i got from the Fiat mechanic was " Most cars with big wheels pull to one side". Ive had a courtesy car from my dealer while mine has been on one of its many 2 day getaways for work to be done and that pulled to the left also. It was a 1.4 with the Active Sport alloys on, 15" i think.
However, i think im now going to go elsewhere to see if i can get to the bottom of the problem because ive had the tracking and balancing done, my tyre pressure is constant, ive tried it on many roads to take adverse camber etc into consideration and my tyres are still getting noticably scrubbed on the inside of the passenger side wheel.
The steering is, i think relativly light (i have the 17" sporting alloys) but i would expect this from power steering, however it does stiffen up at speeds as it is designed to. If i get the drifting sorted i will post it up on the forum.
