Hi Guys,

I am after a bit of advice really. I was working at my second job as a waitress in a busy holiday restaurant and noticed this the next day....:(

It had been done by a bloke on holiday who obviously couldn't park, luckily he had left his number on my windscreen. I rang him the other day and he apologised and said he would pay for the work and if I could get a quote and get back to him. I am about to drive to a couple of body shops today for estimates but was wondering whether it would be better just to get a Panda door and respray it. How rare are they to get hold of (I should imagine rare or rusted!) and if they are still available through Fiat?

He doesn't want to go through the insurance which I am quite pleased about as I thought the insurance company might wanna scrap my car due to it not being economic.

Any advice would be greatly received (y)

I suspect a new door sprayed to match is going to be the wrong side of £400 he may be thinking that it's an old car and his excess will be way over the repair cost, but might change his mind when you get a quote. That door looked like it was in pretty good condition before it was damaged, you'd be lucky to get one that good from a breakers. If the insurance company was to write it off you may be able to buy it back, and actually do ok out of it, but you need to check with them first.
Don't be brow beaten into accepting less than you're entitled to!(y)

if you go through insurance then his insurance company cannot write off the car, they could only write off his car. you have the right to have your car repaired to exactly how it was before it got hit, if that costs twice what the car is worth - then so be it.

Cheers for the advice. I have got two quotes back for the work and one pending. The first one is £350 + vat and the second is £175, which I thought was a bit low and not sure what sort of job they would do tbh.
The third one said that it is beyond repair and a new door was in needed, he is going to see if he can get a price from Fiat but I told him I doubt they still sell them, but we will see.

Glad to hear that the bloke owned up to it.

I scuffed another car at Gatwick airport a couple of years ago.. the cost - one new door on a Mk5 Golf, £2600!

A first class repair on your Panda will be a pittance in comparison. Don't let the insurance company sell you short. *Insist* that they make it good - it's not your fault that their client damaged your car..

Cheers,

:yeahthat:

It's called indemnity!

Thanks Nitro, had a look and it might work out better if he just pays for a new door and get it resprayed, then it will look perfect!. Will look into it.

Ok don't say i'm not nice to you! Here's the thread in question

https://www.fiatforum.com/panda-classic/163137-need-opinion-doors.html

£192 +VAT

:yeahthat:

Same roughly as what we were quoted beginning of March for a door when Dad's selecta had its minor side damage. Think we were quoted £240 inc VAT.

As mentioned by others, insurance have to pay out in full, and can't write it off. Can always taken them to small claims if need be (like we're planning on doing on Monday )

Ok after a couple of weeks of stressign because I couldn't contact the bloke. I now have his address and sent him the quotes. He has gone for the £350 one to repair the door and re-paint. Just got to book it in with the garage and then he will pay them direct with a card. I will have a chat with the garage first to see what would happen if they couldn't get hold of him to pay as I dont really want my car to be impounded!
I doubt very much that it will be fixed in time for Panda Camping Fun, so you can all see the damage in all it's glory...

Atleast things are moving.

That £350 one include new door

Get garage to bill him before they start work (y)

No it's for repair and respray, the new door one was nearly £700 which I thought they were taking the **** with!

I really please coz the garage who are going to do it specialise in classic cars and people take their Mini's from all over the UK to have body work done, so I know they will take great care of him. I spent ages talking to the bloke about old cars and hes willing to do the work on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday so I won't have to try and get into work without a car.

I told him the problem I had getting hold of the bloke who did the damage and he said he will ring him up in the week and get full payment first then I can book him in so there should be no problems.

I will have to get him booked in for July now as I my weekends are full now until then.

Hi All, thought I would keep you updated on this..

I have Arthur booked into the garage for Thurs 2nd July for 3 days work to have the door repaired and sprayed. The bloke from the garage was really helpful and rang the man up in the week for payment prior to work comencing. He also thanked the bloke for owning up to it, which was nice.

I will post piccies of the repair at some point, looking at the repairs on the other cars in the garage I know he will be in safe hands :p
