hello:)
first post here so hope it's in the right place!

my punto is in the garage at the moment and they've just told me that the crank shaft pulley and handle centre are broken. they are ringing round trying to find a second hand one but are struggling and have asked the fiat dealers for a price.

sounds very expensive to me, is it?

thanks

Which Punto? 1.2 8v ones should be very cheap at the scrappy.

thanks for the reply. yes that's the one. garage have rung round and can't seem to find a second hand one (not sure just how much ringing round they've done). would they be expensive new?

appreciate the reply

Shouldn't be but you never know with FIAT. Why did the car go into the garage? Want to make sure they didn't break it

broke down on the motorway, massive bang, sounded like something fell off and banged underneath (i know i didn't drive over anything) then the power just went. when i pulled over it wouldn't start again....which was fun!

thanks for the reply :)

Sounds like that is what broke then. Your lucky it's the 8v and not the 16v or you'd be splashing out on a top half engine rebuild aswell :p

yeah, it definitely felt like something came off and hit the bottom of the car...that was fun trying to get across the lanes with speed dropping rapidly!

thanks for your help :D

Are they looking for a a complete crank or just the pulley?

If they after a complete pulley you might as well buy a second hand engine as it will need to either buy the conrods and pistons as well or have the crank reground and sized up for new shells. A second hand engine for a Mk1 should be under £200.

If they are just looking for the pulley then they should find one in a scrappy for about £15-20 but you may find they are relutant to sell it as it leaves them with an incomplete engine.
