Well Dr Evil, ahem, Simon Cowell's decided to organise a single in aid of situation over in Haiti. It is of course a good cause and the single he'll release will hopefully raise millions for the relief effort.

However, are there any of you hoping that the track in question is more of a Band Aid than a Candle in the Wind?

I for one am not bothered how money is raised so long as it IS raised but I'm always slightly depressed by the need to lampoon classic songs for the sake of a quick buck even if it is for a good cause.

I realise this is all for a good cause, but Im in the camp that says leave the classics alone.

Band Aid, the single, worked as it was a new record put together in a matter of days. No real time to perfect the song, let alone rehearse it properly.

I'll donate money direct I think (y)

REM's everybody hurts apparently will be used.

Indeed.

I mean it's appropriate given the circumstances but I just wonder what kind of rendition they'll produce given the not so great versions of songs produced in recent times.

As I say though, it is for a good cause so any effort is worth while. I just don't want to see another good song covered in a pretty awful way.

Odds on for an un-needed key changed, shoe-horned into the final 30 seconds?:nutter:

A fundraiser eh?

im sick of all these celebs telling us to get our hands in our pockets and to dig deep!

heres a thought, i will if you will. you have millions in the bank, for every tenner i can afford, you can put in at least a million. FFS, if cowell and Bono got together they could probably put in the best part of a half a billion without any damage to their lifestyles.

so mr Cowell, stop pissing about trying to get publicity, get your hands in your pocket and hand over some of your cash to those that really need it before you try to encourage us to do the same. fundraising is all well and good, but the cynical part of me says its just another way for him to get his name in the papers.

As much as this is the wrong time to agree with your post, I reckon you're probably right.

Gordon Brown is in between a rock and a hard place just now. Iraq inquiry ongoing (which he seems to be trying to avoid?) plus a looming General Election where he's almost certainly going to be kicked out of office..

As much as I'd hope he's not, this is probably being used to raise the 'look good in front of the public' stakes. As for Cowell, I'll not even get into that argument. If it's for charity, why not just re-release the ORIGINAL version of everybody hurts (watching Sky News just now, it seems odds on favourite) and ask the band to donate all profits? I'm sure that would probably raise MORE than some second rate cover!

Yeah that..(y)

And these so call pop composers have been ripping of the classic composers for years and have been passing it off as their own work..

I have voted i will be donating another way,i give when i have it and don't when iam tight, but that said every penny counts and even if iam passing a donating box on the street or in a shop if i have some Penny's in my pocket i will throw some in even though its only a few pence.... as i said it all adds up at the end of the day,

Like most i don't like being told what to do and when to do it,like the Song.......I WILL DO IT MY WAY:eek:

I don't know Cowel well enough but iam sure deep down he is doing it for the right reasons as well as self promoting for free publicity???

Cheers Scuderia
