Hi all
im new to the forum.
my Daughter has loved fiat 500s forever
She is only 17 and has been saving up for over a year to buy a car
we have bought an accident damaged 2013 500 sport from COPART Bristol
it has front end damage to the lower impact bar, bumper, headlight, side light and bonnet.

if you all dont mind, ill be picking your brains on the repair side and what to look out for

Thanks.

tried to upload pics but havent reached my min 5 post so will upload asap

+1 on Typecastboy being the resident expert in 500's that ain't quite right shall we say!

Hi Typecastboy, 51!!! you deffinatley have a thing about them!
ill upload some pics now.

some pics of the car and damage

the lower drivers side impact bar was damaged, and its just caught the upper impact bar.
the tabs had broken on the headlight and sidelight, ive bought a tab repair kit, and that went on pretty easily with the mounting points.
i have an insurance approved bonnet, the bonnet striker is sitting too far forward of the bonnet catch on the slam panel
which makes me think ill need a new slam panel or a bigger mallet

As far as I can see you do need a new slam panel.

You should be able to get a genuine bonnet in colour on eBay.

Depending on what you’ve paid for your “insurance approved” bonnet it will be rubbish and not insurance approved at all. The Chinese ones from eBay are always rubbish. The bend on the hinges and dent really easily. Just pick up an original and one of those in each hand and you’ll see the difference in weight.

If you can’t get one in colour I would reccomend getting a white one and getting it painted. Avoid cheap bonnets like the plague!

Pattern bumpers on the other hand are fine but you’ll most likely be able to get an original one in colour too. When you see parts advertised as “primed” they are not primed. That black finish is just a protective coating it is not primer.

The pattern front panels are also ok. I bought on today from BCP for £62. I’ve bought them many times before and they fit fine.

Anyone else think it's "very dirty" under the bonnet?

Depends on where it’s lived, open the bonnet on my Punto and it’s about 80% mud and about 15% engine, the rest is oil that’s leaked out, but when you live in the country and need to get about in a hurry it’s amazing how much mud ends up under the bonnet.

I would look for a bonnet and bumper in the same colour from a local car dismantler I have done this before on a car for a friend you would never have noticed we had changed the panels
