The aerosol can label does say "Spectral", so it uses that companies technology. I imagine the mixing must have been really simplified by Spectral?
No I meant one of those colour analysers…take a part in that has the existing paint on it, they scan it and produce an exact colour match (usually three) so that you can directly compare to find the right one by eye, then they mix up what you want

Do a lot of bodyshops mix their own paint? I imagine that would be a lot more reliable and accurate than using a separate paint shop.
Depends on the body shop. Some do but the equipment to do so can be extremely costly, so it tends to be bigger body shops.

The difference between a professional body shop and what you’re doing is the body shop will blend the paint on adjacent panels so while the colour may not be 100% you don’t seen the transition between the colour like you would do if you had two different panels right next to one another

That is kind of neat. I won't be blending any adjacent panels, its just too difficult!

I haven't had a chance to do anything with the car, i'll get back to that next week.

My son is learning to drive in my EVO and scratched one of the doors today. I'm not bothered really, it was against a lamp post and doesn't affect the driveability.

I told him i was going to put the picture on the Fiat forum and he said "Yes, go on!". I'll probably give it a quick once over with some spray paint and flatten it with some filler at some point. No doubt the colour won't match lol.

So anyway i bought some more Fiat 348 paint. It arrived and on the can it said Fiat 348B. I almost sent it straight back but thought i'd test it anyway...and guess what? It matches!

So the situation is that Fiat 348 and 348B are so close in colour that paint companies don't differentiate between the two. My gut reaction about the first supplier was correct, they just gave me the wrong paint.

So i'll do the job again now and hopefully it'll just be a slight shade off, but not look obviously wrong. We'll see :)

The new wing is on but not tightened up, its not so great lol. The colour is a shade off. Ahh gotta larf. It doesn't look totally stupid though, just amateur bad! :D

My current problem is how to secure the panel into the body work at the location below. I have no access to the inside of the bodywork here, originally there was a nut riveted to the bodywork but the nut has gone. So I think i need some kind of winged anchor, or is there something else I could use?

I'm also struggline to tighten the bolts near the headlamp, i'd like to remove the headlamp but I can't figure out how to remove the electric cable as pictured below, does anyone know what the trick to removing this is?

The panel does need tightening up, but i'm not hopeful it will hang properly...anyone got tips and hints to make panels go on better?

I can't say i'm that eager to do this again lol. On the plus side the wing will probably look so bad I don't need to worry about fixing the other bodywork problems! lol

I'll take a look on eBay, thanks.

I can also see from the picture above that the bonnet has bent a little. I can't tell in person, but it's obvious in the picture.

The colour actually looks right close up, but not from distance. I think the problem is the lacquer, which isn't thick enough. I might get some 2k and try that.

Clay block it it may just be dirty paint. Bonnet needs adjustment by fingers. I would get some panel glue. MAybe a heavy duty one used rivet clip?

I had no idea what clay block was until i googled just now. So i saw this video, i'm putting it here to watch later.

Bonnet needs adjustment by fingers.

I've been trying that, it just won't sit right. I think both the bonnet and second hand panel may have buckled in the same place. Or i'm just too amateur :)

I would get some panel glue.

I've just been looking at how to use panel glue, its currently a mystery, what should i do with it?

A blob on the area, where the panels meet and clamp until its set. Its immensely strong but reatains some flexibility. Ive not used it, but watched the guys in our workshop outside my orrifice window sticking wings on a Peugeot 405 they were reshelling. We were liable for all own-damage on the fleet lease cars. It was repaired. I must say I woulsnt have wanted it back!

Hmmm interesting, i'll see if there is anything behind the panel i could use to glue it.

What comes to mind is that these panels have something unknown to me behind them, and in this panel it was sawed off. All i can see are the saw marks.

The car isn't going to look great, alas. I'm convinced mechanically its great and the interior is great, so i'll have to take the rough with the smooth. Or should i say the creature comforts with the world having a little chuckle :)
