I have a problem my Fiat Punto selecta 60sx which runs quite cool temp wise at the first quarter mark on the temp gauge.

However when stopped in traffic it slowly creeeps up to about half way on the gauge but the cooling fan never kicks in at all.

which is quite scary as it soars past the half way mark nearly on the red mark!

once you are back out of traffic though it settles back down to the 1st quarter mark.

I have checked the fuse in the engine bay for the cooling fan it looks ok.
does anyone have any other ideas possible thermostat?

Its due to go into a garage tomorrow so I want to be armed with information
so I dont get stung.

well sounds like a combination fo 2 problems. the thermostat woudl cause it to run cool but the over heating sound like the temp switch that controls the fan isnt working as joel said.

actually had something simialr on a old cavalier i used to own turned out thermostat had gone hence to cool but the rason it was getting tohot was i had a blocked radiator core wich was stopping the hot water getting to the temp switch to turn fan on.
