Styling Colour Query

I’m new to classic car ownership and the Fiat 500. I bought my 1970 500L a couple of months ago and cannot find the colour code on the body anywhere. Does anyone know what colour code this is? As I’m thinking I’ll need a respray once the all the surface rust is sorted .

I have never seen a 500 with that colour from new---has it had a respray at some time in its life? A good paint-shop should have a "Spectrophotometer" which will be able to accurately ascertain, and match, the colour on your car.

I've seen a 126 in this colour, or similar, though I can't vouch for the originality of that painjob either. A bright, acid green was popular with Piaggio, Innocenti and Lamborghini in the 60's, but I feel this is a more subdued tone.

Agree on the comments that the OP's car is not an original Fiat colour.

Thanks for the replies, I can’t tell yet that it’s had a respray, but the paint was in an awful condition when I bought it. So not sure what version of green it was in the past. This is a before and after T-cut session.

Did you look on the chassis number "shield" under the front hood, close to the gas tank? You should find a plaque with the chassis number and a 3-digits number. For example mine has 419 which makes a Blu Turchese (Turkish blue).

The problem is that in my experience, not all cars had a plate with that code....419 and 208 being the best.

I don’t think mine has the code on the plate.

I guess the good news is that I don’t need to worry about restoring to the original colour if I don’t know it . I can take my pick of the colours

The plate has been removed and replaced, probably when it was resprayed. It would be interesting to know if it's anywhere near an original colour. Maybe check behind the back seats where it might give a clue.

This colour reminds me of Fiat Brilliant Green, code no. 374, a shade that was used on some Fiat models in the early 1970's - I don't recall it being used in the late '60's (and I worked in a Fiat dealership in that period).

Maybe it’s lighting? The “before” green looks like verde chiaro.

Yes you can. When I was restoring Valentina, I looked at all the Fiat colours and nothing really floated my boat in the world of green, so choose a Porsche colour instead. As they say, your car, your choice.
