My clutch nearly died yesterday.

I lost the ability to get into any gears shortly after moving off, managed to stop car, had a poke around and was thinking clutch pedal. tried clutchless gearchanges, couldnt do them[:(!].Left car and walked to my mates garage to get help. Got car driven back, found clutch cable had slipped. Cant get clutch adjustment right, its very near to top of pedal travel, so I'm assuming, after being advised the clutch was probably shot anyway that the clutch is near to the end of its life.

I was told its about a 4 hr job by a pro. Im not so 3x that- 12hrs. Problem is, I go back to uni on Sunday, and dont really want to go through the expense of having agarahge fit it, given I've bought one and feel confident about fitting it myself!! So now i'm just hoping that mine'll hold up for another 100 miles, until I get enough free time again to sort it out!!

Ill think of something witty....just wait and see............wait I might not.

Mind it'll be a long and not easy job, unless you're an enough experienced mech keen:D

Passion has neither brands nor models!

La passione non ha nè marche nè modelli!

Well, I'm going to drive it amazingly carefully for the next week (if at all- might not need it!:)), then take the car off the road and do the clutch in the time I have spare....

WELL, MY CLUTCH CABLE HAS GONE 5 TIME IN 1 YEAR SO FAR, & AS MY CLUTCH PEDAL IS EXCESSIVELY HARD & NOISY & STIFF TO INTERCHANGE I THINK THAT IS ON ITS WAY OUT TOO!!!!

MY BOYF & I CHANGE THE CLUTCH CABLE NO PROBLEM, BUT IS IT VERY DIFFICULT TO CHANGE THE CLUTCH ITSELF OR DO YOU NEED SPECIALIST EQUIPMENT????

IM FED UP OF SPENDING MONEY TO FIX MY N REG CINQ 1.1 EVERY MONTH I DONT KNOW WHETHER TO SELL / FIX / DUMP??!!!??

HAS ANYONE FOUND ANY SORT OF REINFORCING TIP FOR THE WEAK BRASS L END OF THE CLUTCH CABLE?

hi i have had that problem with the clutch cable before. the best way to overcome the cable snapping is to call the rac or aa and get them to use a temp clutch cable, because the hook is stronger and the cable is thicker!

i called them out last year and had the temp clutch in my car for over 8 months with no prob.

For a clutch cable with an end that never breaks call RICAMBIO and speak to FRANCO... This fiat specialist had a clutch cable made up speacially for them with a different end section and as a result IT DOES NOT BREAK AT ALL!! I'm pretty sure that it comes with a garentee aswell(I'm not sure tho..) 01737 359824...
A very good investment methinks!
Cheers,
MATT
