Yep I am doing mine atm...at the weekends...I go to uni 50mi from my house!!

Its a b'stard to put it simply. Its the first major mechanical thing ive done so wasnt expecting it to be really easy, but only really found out how hard it really is whilst snapping a spanner undoing a hub nut! (they havent moved in 11 yrs!!)

All I can say is yes it can be done quickly by an experienced spannertype, but if yure not that adventurous and need the car on the road..get a garage to do it.

Ive spend 12hrs on it so far- the engine is just ready (1 bolt) to come out..then im hoping its a straight swap!! So i'm reckoning I should be able to do it in another 12hrs or so...

Oh yes, be careful unbolting the passenenger side engine mount.. that bulkhead nearly took my thumb off....and get a good variety of expletives...it does help!!

Are you doing the engine conversion too? I didn't think the engine had to come out if you changed your clutch?

Well, said engine...meant gearbox[xx(].

Engine conversion not going on for forseeable future as Uncoded ECU impossible to find on the cheap.....And my 899 ECU wont run a 1242....

Im probably going to buy a Sporting in summer and do it from that...I just reckon I cant sell my Cinq for much[V][V].

Right. two things to be aware of when removing the 900 GB...

1. There is only 50mm of so to play with on the nearside (due to the chassis design) when removing the gearbox...It wont come out cleanly...mine took 1h30 of fairly solid wrestling on my own- got out in 20mins with another person with me.

2. That said, there is also a pin fixed into the GB at the back near the firewall, about 100mm long, this complicates removal and causes so much wrestling to get the GB out.

The clutch is held on by 6 bolts. turn these carefully as the flywheel will turn as well. Then the plates drop off.. The release bearing is a piece of ****...slides on...
