Can anyone help.
We purchased a Bravo for our daughter a 1.4SX 98 S, on a buget of course. We have done some work to it, breaks, fixed a leak from the sunroof, service etc, but now the clutch has become very heavy. I had a quick look today, there seems to be a leak from a cylinder above the clutch housing, can anyone advise? ie is it easy to repairreplace, can you purchase a replacement seal kit or do you have to purchase a new cylinder, which fluid resevoir serves the unit?
Any advise would be most welcome

Many thanks
John

I'm no mechanic but it cost £190 for a Lucas clutch fitted for my 1.4sx 96.

If it is the cylinder it makes sense to change the whole clutch at the same time, when the engine is out.

Can't really help you with the mecahnical Q's.

Get a new slave cylinder from fiat
the brake resevoir feeds the slave cylinder

Re:Re:Clutch Master Cylinder

You can change the slave cylinder with the engine and gearbox in place
got the radio code if needed then remove the battery and bracket
you will see the cylinder remove the hose, the bolt for the cylinder and remove fit new in revers bleed top up resevoir

Re: Re:Re:Clutch Master Cylinder

Easy job to replace slave cylinder.

As post says above, remove battery, unbolt old one, bolt on new one.

Took me 45 min and I'm not a mechanic.

Re: Re:Re:Clutch Master Cylinder

steve meant to point out his 45 mins included a tea break :D

its an easy fix. about £40 for the slave cylinder iirc.

Re: Re:Re:Clutch Master Cylinder

dont let fiat fob you off and try and sell you a new cylinder they do a seal kit for it

go in armed with this part no: 9940854 it will cost you £17.51 including vat!

thats the two inner rubber seals and the rubber gaitor on the outside!

Re: Re:Re:Clutch Master Cylinder

A new cyl is only ~£25 from shop4parts. If the bore is damaged the new seals won't work.

Re: Re:Re:Clutch Master Cylinder

The slave cyl will take 2 people to finish the job as it must bled 2 bring the clutch back 2 life

Re: Re:Re:Clutch Master Cylinder

Or spend a few £ and buy a 1 man bleeding kit.

Re: Re:Re:Clutch Master Cylinder

Buzz,

The 45 min did indeed include a tea break,(were you watching me??).

Most of the time is spent bleeding the system. Use a hose clamp and it's fairly quick.

Many thanks all for the resonse.

Its the slave cylinder thats the problem, have ordered a replacement will let you all know how it goes.

As you have pointed out the old one was easy to remove.

Again many thanks
John
