Clutch is done!

6hrs or thereabouts and I have a nice new clutch. Have to say from a quick test drive the AP clutch is LOVELY! Really smooth, no juddering and a very good pedal feel.

The old clutch was very worn, right down to the rivets. Not a sign of oil or anything in the clutch housing so the juddering its suffered all its life was purely down to the clutch itself.

I'm happy! £110 well spent. (£90 for the clutch, £20 for oil + other bits)

I have about 15 pics and will do a quick howto at some point.
The only prob is I dropped my 1/2" socket wrench on the battery and have cracked the top. BUGGER! Its 2 years old and I've been wanting an excuse to get a big bastard battery for my new ICE install so now I have one. :)

Re: Re: Clutch is done!

I've been doing it since I was 10 :)

I have also spend £1000's on tools.

Re: Re: Re: Clutch is done!

not trying to be cheeky how old r u? went to halfords to get the haynes manual, but it doesnt cover the hgt. any advice? or should i just stick to taking the car to the fiat garage?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Clutch is done!

I'm 27 now.

After poking around the engine of Daz's HGT I'd say take it to fiat. At least with the 1.6 I can see what I'm doing :)

Doesn't the coupe haynes manual cover the 20v engine?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Clutch is done!

year older than me mate, but good thinking didnt think of the coupe manual cheers.

Well done Tom! Quite a bit of dosh saved there! I've done quite a few clutch changes over the years but never on a Bravo. Did you need to take the box right out? Or do you reckon it can be done by just moving the box back far enough to change the bits so as to speed things up. Non Fiat mechanics here did my 1.2 Bravo clutch in about 3-4 hours but I didn't have time to sit and watch them do it.
Cheers

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Clutch is done!

Not a hope in hell of doing it with the box still in. there is just not enough room. You will see when I post the pics. You could just get the gearbox back enough to get the gearbox drive spline out of the clutch and then thats it.

Has to be said, I did not save much. Someone had theirs done for £125 and mine was £110 in parts alone... although now I've put a few miles on it, I have to say its a truly lovely clutch.

I also used castrol syntrax box oil and its soooooo sweet and smooth to drive.

Cheers Tom. Be interested in the piccys when you're done. I had an AP clutch fitted too and it still feels as good at 77K miles now (it was changed at 23K with release bearing gone)

Well worth the money, I do not trust the cheap ones.

As far as I know the Fiat clutch is made by Brembo. The old release bearing was slack as anything though!!
