was sat at traffic lights with foot on the clutch, then bang the car starts to pull away, with the clutch glued to the floor:eek:. i managed to pull over safely an got the car towed home.

found the broken part (not the cable), its under the dash an its the part the cable connects to but dont no wat its called to order a new 1?

just to add, there about £6-7 from the main dealers only, or scrappys, but I'd buy new, and use plenty of grease when you re fit.
these are a pritty common bit to go, but there normally a symptom of the clutch or cable getting too stiff.
I'd say its time to look for a new clutch.

Has anyone tried to fabricate their own version of the quadrant but in a stronger material?

I'd have thought it would have went down well as a group buy but i don't know how much it would cost.

Maybe something like this would go well with the modded clutch cable.

Is it something to think about or pointless?

All thats going to happen by strengthening the quadrant is to move the failure point somewhere else, probably more expensive, like a link rod.

The quadrant only fails due to 'denial'

how hard is it to fit a clutch kit?

the clutch was done half a year before i got the car, then it was off the road for 18 months. do u think the clutch myt jus be a bit stiff from being off road?

Fitting a cento clutch is within the range of a DIY enthusiast but it's pushing it. You have to remove the gearbox which means disconnecting hub/driveshafts, far from impossible but quite an intimidating job if you haven't done one before. The cost of getting a garage to fit may be enough to sway you into having a go however!

I changed my cento clutch with the help of a mate who is a mechanic, i'd cheerfully do the next one single handedly but it was nice to have help on hand for the first one.

I know broken quadrants are a sign of a failing clutch but it could have just worn out. You may as well change the quadrant and see how you get on, but go looking for help as a clutch change is probably just around the corner.
