hi im looking for the prices of a new clutch ive been told its about 900+ is this true mines on its way out, ive took it off the road now
i need lots of advice if anyone can talk to me about my car then please do so thanx x
oh and may i say hi to everyone im new here x

hi, that sounds waaay overpriced to me. i dont know the coupe at all - but iirc a new clutch shouldnt be more than around £230 + fitting, i might be wrong on that but £900 sounds far too much

welcome to the forum btw :)

hi thanx for the advice i thought that sounded a bit steep the guy said its a 13 hour job and labour alone was 600 pounds if i was a mechanic id do it myself but i know nothing about the workings of a car so need a lot of advice i just paid out 890 pound for my cam belt change.

like i said, i dont know the car so may be wrong - it sounds like they're just fleecing you for as much as cash as possible. time to find a new mechanic

Hi Janzababe,

In the last couple of years the cost of Coupe ownership (particularly 20VTs)has come down significantly. No. 1 golden rule - don't go anywhere near a Fiat dealership! There are now several 'specialists' dotted around the country who have far more experience with these cars than your average Punto-trained Fiat grease-monkey. Coupe owners have also become far more organised in order to share information and experience - the FCCUK has been created and has a Coupe dedicated forum (not that I am trying to 'steal' members from the Fiat-forum  )

Try visiting the following site.....

Cheers,

Ash

p.s. No. 2 golden rule - check your oil 'every' week :D

I can only echo what Ash is saying here, especially the 20vT becoming more affordable to maintain. A few examples:

3 Years ago it was the norm for a Fiat Dealership to be charging between £1000-1200 to change the Coupe's belts (cambelt and Auxiliaries), I'm sure the price is still the same today, now a Coupe specialist can do this work for £300-600.

The red key issue, again scare stories of £1200 to change/reprogramme the ECU, door/boot locks, ignition barrel, and the supply of the new red key itself, today technology has progressed to a point where this problem can be overcome for £150.

Sorry I can't comment on the clutch price as I've never needed one but I'd say a guess of £350-400 all in would be about right, maybe even cheaper.

There are very few owners of 20vT's using Fiat for maintaining their cars as the prices are just too much, a good specialist is half the price and knows much more about them as they are working on them every day.

The Prof. :D

the amazing powerfiat.co.uk charge £379 quid all in for the clutch.........

have yet to hear a bad word said about em so if you are in the essex area......

Yup - that price is way over the top - the clutch job on a 20v can be a right nightmare so it is not cheap - as mentioned I would budget between £350-£450 depending on who/which specialist that you choose.

To assist on the specialist see this link for - Fiat Coupe service/tuning/repair specialist list

The clutch is about £150 from shop4parts.co.uk , or if you ring Perrys Fiat in Huddersfield they will supply and fit on for £600.

Just sent mine in for one only to find the flywheels cracked so more expense. This is on top of a new manifold, oil cooler + pipes. :bang:
