I have a clunking sound on my HGT thats getting gradually worse, happens when going over speed bumps and bumpy surfaces - is this a symptom of worn wishbones?

How hard are they to replace?

we had a similar thing on the coupe. it started of fairly quiet but noticeable and got really bad over about a fortnight. it was a sort of clunking/ metal scraping noise over speed humps. took it into a garage that does performance cars and they said it was the bushes but they were only done in april so we took it to alfatech and they said that they had searched high and low for what was making the noise and didnt have a clue so its down at motormech at the moment and paul said it is just a loose heat shield that needed fixing up properly!!! we could have ended up spending a fortune on something that wasnt needed. sorry ive not been that much help really but i suppose it might be worth you having a look.

bush

if a wishbone bush has collasped you will certainly know about it as the steering will be rather dodgy as well and it will make one hell of a crash when you go over bumps. metal on metal the wisbone bush housing making contact with the bolt or subframe plus you will see the wishbone move substantially where previously the bush cushioned it by holding it in place. alternatively strut top mounts, knackered ball joints, anti roll bar bushes all should be looked at. it may be worth replacing all these if the car has done a high mileage and is knackered.

i got to agree. mines knocking and i havnt had it checked out. just spent over £100 on new wishbones , arb links and shock absorbers. gonna fit em when it warms up a bit. imo if 1 part is knackered the rest cant be far behind . so im gonna change em all at same time .

I had that problem a month ago changed the bushes and the problem is sorted mate!

cheers for the replies

gaz-yeah i was thinking something similar, is buypartsby the cheapest place for this stuff?

Anyone got any guides on how to do the wishbones / arb bushes ?

well if its not the cheepest its one of them. motor factors could offer competative prices , but when you take into account that you can can get it all in one place , and they will send the lot to your front door for a £7.50 standard deilvery rate. defiantely the place i would get it all fom. thee is a guid fo shock absobes on here im sure, as fo ab link and wishbones a guide isnt really neccesery, its so simple , just keep undoing the obvious bolts untill they come off.

gaz.
